I just finished listening to a few of her songs on YouTube.
She will be missed.
My 3 year old granddaughter, here in Australia, regularly gets books from Dolly’s foundation, and loves them.
What an incredibly inspiring legacy!
She was talented enough to (apparently) write “I Will Always Love You” and “Jolene” in a single day, and people still (rightly) eulogise her by remembering all the good she did by giving away the wodges of cash that work brought her. A life well lived, and nobody will be getting fired for accurately quoting her words, or dancing for joy because she has died. If only more rich celebrities would follow her example.

It has been stated that cancer killed her. She had previously had a lot of health issues so I gather. (See first sentence of my previous comment.) There really ain’t no justice.

At the time I read the adduced article and checked with Wikipedia, no cause of death was given.
IIRC, she ‘passed away peacefully’ and that was that. Same in other news releases.
Somewhere along the line the articles were amended, after I posted my first impression.

I think it was that so early into the news cycle and you were so focused on lacking a cause of death while just about everyone else was posting their admiration for Dolly Parton’s character and good works in life.
I will always remember the 9 to 5 movie. I was never much into country music, but she had some crossover appeal that transcended genres. I wasn’t aware of her Imagination Library until today. And she gave money toward a COVID vaccine.
One thing I will never shake from my memory because it was so surreal was my being in Georgia in the mid 90s and stopping at a restaurant called Kenny Rogers Roasters. I was struck by how good the chicken was. I was also struck by how much a shrine it was to Kenny Rogers’ ego. There was even memorabilia in the restroom. Anyway, Kenny Rogers music was blasting away of course, and while I was there…especially this song (maybe the same video):
That was surreal at the time, but at least Kenny shared his egoistic chicken rotisserie shrine with Dolly.
TIL that “I Will Always Love You” was her goodbye song to Porter Wagner when she left his mentorship. It’s not a romantic love song.
Also TIL that Elvis wanted to cover it back in 1974. The night before the scheduled recording session. Col. Parker called and informed Dolly that Elvis got half of the publishing rights of any song he covered. She wisely refused to sign them over and the recording session was canceled.
I’m guessing Islands in the Stream wasn’t intended to highlight the ontological conflict of Heraclitus and Parmenides. Were the BeeGees that philosophically inclined? More a love song perhaps?

There aren’t a lot of genuinely good people in the world. This is a loss. Could you imagine how different things would be if more wealthy people were like Dolly instead of being sociopaths?
