Schrodinger’s McConnell

Mitch McConnell has been MIA for a few weeks. Credible sources say he’s been in the hospital since 14 June, “recovering”.

Laura Loomer says he is “brain dead” and never coming back.

Who are you going to believe? I think we’ve caught Loomer in a lie. McConnell is a Republican, if you’re going to say he’s brain dead, I’m going to ask, “how can you tell?”

Mitch McConnell has done his damage already. He clearly won’t face trial now but history will be absolutely damming of him. Small consolation really.

I looked into this yesterday because, “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t true.”

Strangely enough, in this case, the available evidence is in fact, that Mitch McConnell is brain dead and on a ventilator in the ICU.

He was found “unresponsive” in cardiac arrest and given CPR by the arriving paramedics.
At his age, the chances of him leaving the hospital conscious are less than 10%.

McConnell’s office and the GOP have refused to say anything about his medical condition.
Which also tells you all you need to know.

He is brain dead and is never going back to the senate.

McConnel is currently starring the role of senior Soviet Politburo member circa 1983. That was the era when it seemed like a senior Soviet leader was on the door of death pretty much every week.

@5: I recall that era. Senior Soviet officials seemed to be constantly coming down with “colds” which, a week or so later, proved fatal.

The problem, which someone else pointed out, is that the Senate allows proxy voting, so until/unless he a) absolutely dies, and its not possible to dispute this, or b) there is absolute, irrefutable, evidence that he is no longer capable to talking, they GOP can simply claim that he, “told someone how he wants to vote on X issue.”, and slap his name on any vote anyway. Heck, they could probably, as long as they keep his death secret, get his corpse reelected, and no one would know the difference. So… The fact that Laura Loomer actually came right out and said, “His body might be alive, but he is a otherwise a corpse.”, is kind of insane. The only possible grounds I can see for this happening is either a) she managed to find a vague sense of conscience (kind of like a lot of other GOP right now, who pop up now and then with, “Well, gosh.. That is just going too far even for me, lets rein things back a bit to only criminal, not insane!”), or b) this is a strategy to let the rest of the GOP all stand around going, “Well, gosh! We had no idea someone was duping us into believing he was still with us! It must be a Democratic conspiracy somehow!” Either one is plausible, given these craven psychos.

Or an AI with sufficient token count that it doesn’t easily hallucinate, get stuck in an infinite loop, during Senate sessions, and/or glitch and reveal that its an AI, instead of a deep fake, in a fake hospital bed. Oh, I know, they are planning to test the AI they babble about building to run the government, except its going to create a room full of fake Senators, sort of like that company that brings back dead people in Max Headroom!

stuffin@3: “There may be a need to establish new criteria for what is brain dead.”
That has been necessary for the GOP for MANY decades. Nixon, Reagan, Shrub, and now the Orange Shitgibbon, a steady decline in intelligence in the GOP with each candidate being far dumber than the previous.

As H.L. Mencken stated over a century ago (1920):
“As democracy is perfected, the office of the president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

  8. Deepak Shetty says

    “how can you tell?”

This joke doesnt work for McConnell. He wasn’t dumb just a regular evil asshole in a position of power who lived long enough to find out that there are even more evil assholes .

  9. says

Zetopan: Mencken was dead wrong there. We didn’t get “a downright moron” because our democracy was “perfected;” we got him because our democracy has been DEGRADED.

McConnell is the mastermind and architect behind the position the GOP is in right now. He plotted and worked for decades to get just this sort of situation, where the GOP could run the whole show and do whatever they wanted, while Democrats could do nothing but feebly object.

His one miscalculation is that he clearly never expected Trump to bungle his way into owning it all.

Having that unhinged idiot Loomer talk about his diminished capabilities is just about what he deserved for all this. I hope her voice in this is elevated so that her comments about him become a part of his legacy. Even as his health issues very publicly made him Senator Stop-‘n-Go McConnell he never stopped pushing for partisan gains at any cost (as long as other people were paying them – he has that in common with Trump if nothing else).
