Kick him out of office already

Or at least, kick this infantile, demented fuckwit off Twitter.

So much for the new year’s hope. I knew the bubble was gonna burst, but day 2? Fuckin’ hell.

  2. monad says

@2: If saying what everyone knows has become harmless, I look forward to every meeting with the president opening with other countries declaring he is mentally unfit, because why wouldn’t they? Unfortunately, I suspect it is still the case that diplomacy requires tact and its absence can get people killed, as has been true for as long as there have been records.

  3. robro says

    Well, it’s true enough.

Yes, if you’re counting just the US and North Korea. The equation becomes more balanced if you factor in Russia and/or China. How they might react to a preemptive attack, or even a retaliatory attack, isn’t easy to guess. They have been more circumspect in their position…perhaps reflecting a smarter approach than Trump is capable of. “Telling it like it is” isn’t always the best strategy. And of course, everybody looses in an all out exchange of nukes.

Monad, no dispute with you, it is tactless. It is undiplomatic. It is (arguably) dangerous.

It is definitely unstatesmanlike — not quite Roosevelt’s “speak softly and carry a big stick”.

(But it is one of the very few times Trump has not actually bullshitted when Tweeting)

[we crossed, Robro. But, again, NK has made no bones that it’s seen what happens to regimes without Nukes. The big and little Bushes made that very, very clear.]

Did Trump just assert he has a Nuclear Button of Unusual Size?

Oh, if only we could confine him to the Nuclear Fire Swamp. :wistful:

I think that the Chinese understand all too well what is going on here. They understand that they have more options on how to “fuck us up” then just sending a few nukes our way. Looks to me like things are going just fine for the Russians as for kicking the US off of the top most position of world leadership so far.
The next big step is another major economic slump or
“correction” and the seeds for that have all ready been planted, with the tax cut and deregulation on going.
We have to wait and see what either one of these two self-important little shits will actually do next.

I expect he’ll be bragging about the size of his bowel movements and kidney stones next.

    @5, John Morales

Well, depending on how pedantic you want to be, he’s still bullshiting. It’s not a button, it’s not on his desk, and it isn’t of a remarkable size.

Though, knowing him, he probably had a big red button labeled “NUKE” rigged up and placed on his desk. It doesn’t do anything, but it makes him feel important.

The “football” that controls the US nuclear arsenal’s Permissive Action Links is mostly theater. Unfortunately. Otherwise someone could change the password. The odds Trump knows the 8-digit code, anyway, are low. But the damn thing is theater and around half of the US’ humongous arsenal can be armed and launched by the battery commander.

During the Reagan administration the code to the “football” was ‘00000000’ and Clinton never even asked for it.

Does “increasing the risk of nuclear war” violate the Twitter terms of service?

Is it true that on taking office rambling ron asked the see the war room and was disappointed that it was not like the one in Dr Strangelove .

  13. jamiejag says

What trump fails to mention is that his big button is a light blue trapezoidal shape with the magical word “pfizer” etched onto its surface. Also, he’ll be pressing that button with tragically tiny hands.

/So our survival depends upon the good sense and restraint of Kim Jong Un?

For someone playing a bad hand against the most aggressive, interventionist state in the world, he seems pretty sane and competent.
