Yep. The Simpsons are a key demographic. We can laugh at the cartoon, but I know a number of people who are planning to vote for Donald Trump. These supporters, unfortunately, don’t see anything wrong with his philosophy and are actively campaigning for him. I think it’s going to take a lot of us to get the attitude of the Trump supporters turned around before November.

You can only change the mind of an authoritarian personality if you are someone that authoritarian trusts implicitly.
really.
so, no. don’t waste your effort trying to change the minds of people already stumping for Trump.
instead focus on people planning to vote for trump, or 3rd party, out of nothing more than spite.
you can change those people’s minds.
Donald will get at least 20% of americans to vote for him, so long as he is still running when the election happens. there is nothing to be done about that.
that still leaves a lot of people to make sure they DON’T vote for trump.

I’d say there will be plenty of voters who are “GOP by default”, and who haven’t really been listening to all the things Trump has been saying. Since plenty of Republican voters and pundits have been coming out in support of Hillary against Donald, there does seem to be room to change minds across the spectrum.
Good luck with your elections, US! Don’t let the the rest of the world down.

90% of them are authoritarian personality types who will not trust a word you say… unless they implicitly trust you to begin with.
IT IS a waste of effort, when there is little time left, to try and reach them. I know.. god how many wasted days I spent trying to change these peoples minds over the last 30 years.
don’t do it. waste of energy, waste of time. time far better spent doing exactly what I already suggested.

This is why you will NOT be able to change the minds of the core base Trump is relying on.
Trying to reason with Trump supporters….
I dunno, for some reason they make me think of this guy:
“Angry Swede walks into McDonald’s carrying a deceased badger” http://www.thelocal.se/20160801/a-swede-walks-into-mcdonalds-with-a-dead-badger
Their core demographic? “I am angry with you!” (goes berserk with a dead badger)

Significant when one notes the general population’s voter turnout in your elections.

Ichthyic @2,
I agree and have given up trying to convince Trump supporters. I’m now working the Sanders message boards trying to convince them and making a little headway. I think the sting of Bernie losing the nomination is still fresh and hopefully once the emotions die down they will start to listen to reason and logic again. Of course the Trump campaign and RNC are going to do all in their power to keep emotions running high. I’ve got to believe that there are Trump supporters masquerading as Bernie supporters on the message boards as well. It’s hard to believe some of the vitriolic commenting there could come from someone who supported Sanders in the first place. Anyway I think that is one battleground that we all should be working, get on the Sanders message boards and try and talk some sense into the people there.
