Yeah, a timelapse of invertebrate blood cells. I used to watch these things in grasshoppers, they’re pretty sweet.

OK, I didn’t ask this right.
You guys are the experts. This your field. The rest of us lurkers have no idea what’s happening here.
Hemocytes. Blood cells. Got it.
So what is happening here? Did she drop a squid into a dish of solvent and we’re watching the poor thing rupture and bleed to death, or what?

She is growing a hemocyte culture. It’s a timelapse photo of squid hemocytes replicating themselves. There is a link under the picture.

#8 Tethys,
I went over to the link earlier and found:
“In case any of you guys were like “Man, it’s been a while since my last cell biology themed nightmare”, don’t you worry, my hemocytes have you covered”
which was no help. Nowhere was the fact that this is a growing culture. I guess to an experienced biologist this is quite evident. But to most of us heathens it was just a big question mark.
Thank you for the explanation. Much appreciated.

I am flattered that you think I am a biologist, but I have not done any of this stuff since 10th grade. My teacher did say that he thought high school bio was too easy, so he gave us a college level bio 101, and apparently he wasn’t kidding. (thank you Mr Perpich!!) I guess I just assume live cells are in culture, and micro-photography, because of the pointer thing in the photo.
In any case, you are welcome. Happy to be of assistance.

I give up. What am I looking at here?

Huh, squid hemocytes. I’ve always been fascinated by symbiosis.
