I thought they were free speech absolutists

I call this an attempt to crush dissent. I guess I’m going to have to protest.

All Federal Funding will STOP for any College, School, or University that allows illegal protests. Agitators will be imprisoned/or permanently sent back to the country from which they came. American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on on the crime, arrested. NO MASKS! Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Like on Friday, when I’m protesting for science in St Paul.

No problem. As law abiding Americans, we will only hold legal protests as enshrined in the constitution. We shall leave the illegal protests like attacking Congress to magats.

  2. Reginald Selkirk says

American students will be permanently expelled…

That would have to be done by the university, not the federal government.

I’m guessing he thinks that the threat of defunding will make the universities expel offenders.

@6: And the sad part is, for a lot of universities he’s probably right.

He’s running a year ahead of the timeline Germany’s fascists did in 1933.

i don’t normally find hypocrisy too offensive. most of us are contradictory in various little ways. but the shamelessmess of the most shameful fucks since 1935, man, fuck him in his shitty orange neck. i hate.

Free speech is only reserved for the sovereign, who solely determines the law, the state of exception, and who the enemies are. Right now many enemies are in the Cathedral and DOGE is pulling a RAGEr. I’m not making any of this shit up.

Donald Trump believes in the absolute right of free speech… for Donald Trump. Everyone else can shut up and like it.

If you live in a blue state, it will affect you less because we rely less on subsidies than red states. They are shooting the next generation of GOP assholes in the foot.

So far the courts seem to mostly be holding the line against his worst excesses. I’m wondering how long it will be before he starts having judges arrested. The Supreme Court may live to regret having given him criminal immunity.

PZ, yes, protest. Wear a mask, it is a sign of intelligence, responsibility and prevents infection by the deadly magat disease.
BUT, be careful the fascist military-style police will likely try to scoop up all protests, legal or not.
P.S. I will continue wearing a mask whenever out in public until I die!

  12. says

And, if asked or threatened about my mask, I say, I am cautious not contagious and it protects me from deadly disease and deadly stupidity.

  13. asclepias says

I’ve had lots of opportunities to protest in the past couple weeks thanks to 50501 and a local activist. I wear a mask to all of them and no one has said anything. Tomorrow is the last day the state legislature is in session, so we’ll be seeing them off, and I’ll be marching for science in Denver on Friday! (The state representative has town halls scheduled all across the state this month, including here. Should be entertaining!)

My institution is actively tearing down the flyers for a Cleveland Stand Up event. Even though the institution wouldn’t exist if the 15% cap on indirects becomes ‘law’. So yeah, I believe institutions would comply …
