I am very much enjoying the vicarious thrill of reading a Feminist on Tinder. Tinder seems to be ground zero for embarrassingly ignorant mansplaining, and this woman put up a profile that says “hello i am a feminist,” which prompts so much stupidity to be put down.
For example:
I thoroughly despise anti-feminists, but it’s my male privilege that makes me just as angry at guys who abuse evolution.
Boy, when I think of all the women I have saved from extinction today…
I am fully in support of every male who grows a little human in his uterus and pushes it out to receive every bit of maternity leave his female co-workers get.
I’m also noting the trend of “male advantages are just natural and the way of things, female advantages are an inequity for which men must be granted a compensatory advantage”.
And the stupid is making my brain hurt.
Well, that was far less entertaining or thrilling than you led me to believe. The most positive thing I could take away from this was that all the other muppets do a better job proof-reading than this guy. No need to add a migraine on top of the aneurism that must surely follow prolonged exposure to this lot.
“Women get paid maternity leave […] which a male will never be able to get”
In quebec, the pregnant employee who gives birth gets 18 weeks paid maternity leave, the non-pregnant new parent gets 5 weeks paid paternity leave. The non-pregnant parent doesn’t get as much … because they didn’t just pop out a baby. On top of those, the couple share 52 weeks unpaid leave. If the couple aren’t married and the non-pregnant partner didn’t provide the sperm, there’s a couple hoops to jump through to establish that person as eligible for paternity leave.
I’m going to bet that a man who became pregnant would get maternity leave in Quebec. I haven’t heard of this happening yet, but even if it hasn’t, it’s only a matter of time.

Abuse of evolution? And how about that abuse of economics? “inflation took place” lol
I like her response but I think the winner in that debate was actually autocorrect.
Listening to these assholes whine about what does and doesn’t constitute equality reminds me of watching children throw a tantrum when they think their sibling got more Kool Aid in their glass. It would be amusing if it weren’t so dangerous.
Well it’s true, a cis man will never be able to get paid maternity leave. This is a gross injustice. Paternity leave, on the other hand, is quite available in an increasing area of the world. So maybe don’t lead with that.
Of course, the real question is when will someone – anyone! – finally decide to have an international men’s day?
@2 whirlwitch
I share your pain. I am at a loss as to why the ones who make such stupid comments and think such stupid thoughts don’t have an explosive cerebral hemorrhage.
“Men are more muscular”
Sure.

Missing: “men are more intelligent”.

Wipes the chessboard with all men on earth bar perhaps 100.
This feminist has the right attitude. There are only two ways to deal with such stupidity: run away or mock.
As PZ despises this twit’s abuse of evolution, I am appalled by his abuse of the English language;
Guys, if you must go on-line and say some really stupid things, don’t you think you might spend just a teeny bit of time learning something about English usage? You’re embarrassing the rest of us…
dogfightwithdogma 9:
Maybe stupid confers a reproductive advantage?
From what I see on wehuntedthemammoth, the manosphere is full of evolution abuse. It seems to be an article of faith among MRA types that women are “hardwired” to cheat with bad boys and con “betas” into raising the resulting children.
quotetheunquote
That was so awful that I can’t believe it wasn’t deliberate. I refuse to accept that someone could do that to the English language by accident.
It took me a while to stop LOL-ing at ‘revolutionary point of view’ to read the whole thing…
@12 irisvanderpluym
Oh how I do hope that it is not true. World is already overrun with enough stupid.
Of course, the real question is when will someone – anyone! – finally decide to have an international men’s day?
Every day is international men’s day!
Actually, November 19 is International Men’s Day. But nobody knows that, because nobody cares except on International Women’s Day which was on March 8.
Maybe it’s weird but I’d like to see automatic paid leave of a reasonable number of weeks for both parents, and then continued leave available to *either* parent, depending on how their household wants to handle child care rather than automatically assuming that of COURSE the carrying parent is going to take the leave.
ceesays @19: as I mentioned upthread, that’s precisely the Quebec system.
@ceesays AFAIK in Sweden there is a total of 15 months of parental leave to be divided by the parents.
Which means among other things that 1) men can actually take time to be fathers and 2) women are not the only ones who become a liability on the work place when children are coming, which hopefully evens a bit job access inequality.
Quite the contrary – I am convinced of the adaptive advantage of stupid; explains so well how the world got the way it is.
Best. Comeback. Ever.
I know being “brief” is a good thing, but often I am afraid of being misunderstood. I’m just no good at expressing my thoughts in few words while still leaving no room for misunderstanding, so I end up having to explain things in great detail just to be understood. Being misunderstood is probably my biggest pet peeve, so I go out of my way to avoid it.
Sorry, I think I did it again.
@Dark Jaguar. 24
Honestly, as long as you just avoid being both dismissive and ignorant of feminism while attempting to chat up a feminist, you should be fine. The problem with the guy in that image isn’t that he’s talking a lot so much as that he’s talking a lot while being completely full of shit.
Right. And this is why most all fighter pilots are women, placed in the jobs their sex and gender are statistically (or anecdotally, since we may freely conflate the two) better suited for. QED!
