The Covid has Landed

Diarrhea starting last Thursday, sore throat Sunday, cough starting today at around five AM.  My workplace has been making us come in one day a week and I forgot my N95 at home for that one lousy day last week.  I held my hand over my mouth until I could double-mask with the freebies they have on the bus, switched to an N95 at work.  The complimentary ones are a defective batch which some geniuses stapled so the straps have to go around your entire head instead of the ear.  I had to modify the straps with scissors to make it fit.

Or maybe I got it from the person my boyfriend’s mom works with, who came in to work with a cough last week.  Who can say?  All I know is this – I haven’t coughed in years now, and since I started coughing again, that shit is mightily unpleasant.  I will never ever be without an N95 in public again.  I also have to reschedule my surgery and other procedures, but the donations will still help – I’ll have to take off the same amount of time whenever I get these things done.  Thanks to those who contributed.

I gotta say that, speaking from experience, whoever invented the combination of “diarrhea and racking cough” was a motherfucker.
If you start puking, eat applesauce, it’s one of the few things that tastes about the same coming up as it does going down, and the pectin buffers your throat against the stomach acids.

Not sure if this helps or not but if you want an informative distraction there are some rather good videos on youtube about the immune system. I’m thinking of stuff you’d find by searching for “kurzgesagt immune system” but I’m sure there are others. Sometimes just being more informed about which symptoms are created by the disease and which are your body trying to kill it off makes me feel a bit better about it all.

I didn’t link a video because I could see that having the opposite effect for someone else and I didn’t want to be rude.

Oof – please do take good care of yourself, and take all the time you need to recover (as much as possible, anyway). Wishing you very much a “get well soon”.

Ugh. I got it after successfully dodging it for over 2.5 years and the puking didn’t stop for over a month, so I hope your case goes better than mine did–I lost 12 lbs in 9 days, mostly from dehydration. Keep in mind that some foods might trigger the nausea more than others, so ginger ale and toast are likely to be your friends for awhile. (I couldn’t eat red meat for about 2 month but fruits and white bread were an option after the first 12 days–yes, it was that bad. My entire diet was liquid for the first two weeks.)
    Stay hydrated and take care.

this stuff is so variable; for the puking was two days and other people in my household puked not a drop. i’m probably “clear” of the virus now, just coughing to clear the lung goo. but that does hurt, not lovin’ life. can barely imagine what it would feel like with your case, yikes. how are you now?

I hate to say it, but I’ve gotten quite lax on my precautions, specifically the masking. It has been exhausting. My anxiety has not had a break in years, between grocery shopping (Costco doesn’t have curbside and when you need produce for a family of four…).

I’ve had the plague twice, but not until after like three boosters. Thankfully, the symptoms hit me much lighter than they got you.
