In a couple hours I’ll be on a plane to Portland! I’ve set up some posts to go up during my absence, and I may blog at the conference if I get burnt out on evolution (unlikely, I know). Until then, here are some interesting stories I’ve seen recently to keep you busy.
- NHL champions the Chicago Blackhawks will bring the Stanley Cup to the Chicago gay pride parade. Yet another reason why I love being a Chicagoan.
- Young professors are trying to gain some extra respect in academia by purposefully dying their hair gray. And you thought teaching all those undergrads would be enough to do it naturally.
- Barry White fans are finally justified by science: Romantic songs make women more open to dates.
- And here’s a lolcat that’s sure to lift your luggage:
Enjoy your stay, here!
Grey hair is hereditary; you get it from the kids.Enjoy Portland. :)
Have fun in Portland. Beware though, that place gets weird very quickly. I swear that half of all Discordians live there. I need to make a pilgrimage someday.
“Romantic songs make women more open to dates” : I wouldn’t trust a study that uses songs by Francis Cabrel and Vincent Delerm. In the first case I think women gave her number just to punch the guy later because of his bad taste ; in the second case, they were just too bored too notice someone asked for their number. ;-)
“P. Nus-Whimple” said that huh? I smell a rat…
An interesting viusal since today is Alan Turing’s birthday.http://laughinginpurgatory.blo…
I stumbled along your blog whilst browsing. Anyway, I really like it! It’s great to read writings by other liberals! :)
EPIC FAIL. The cat on the left is a female.
Ahh, yes, Des beat me to it. Unless that cat has some serious genetic abnormalities (which are quite rare) it is indeed a female
No, really? The big cat is a lady cat, and the little one is her kitten feeding? It’s just a normal image taken out of context with an amusing caption slapped on it?Tell me, have you ever heard of Lolcats?
Yes, I read ICHC regularly. But imagine the same photo with humans instead; would you have laughed if the person on the left was clearly, obviously, unambiguously, indubitably female? They could at least have picked one with short hair and a flat chest.
