Elementary school gunman identified

Update: President will address nation any minute, and looks like media posted wrong Facebook pic of shooter, now other outlets are following suit and posting the same wrong pic. Live Updates

The shooter in the Connecticut elementary school massacre that left 27 dead this morning has been identified. Meanwhile, Gov Rick Snyder is about to sign a wingnut bill allowing more guns into schools. First the latest perp’s name:

NBC News— A young man clad in black and carrying two handguns rampaged through a Connecticut elementary school Friday, killing 18 small children and seven adults in the nation’s second-worst school massacre, law enforcement officials said.

The gunman, identified as Ryan Lanza, 24, was also found dead at the scene, a federal law enforcement official said. Lanza is the son of a kindergarten teacher at the school, reported WNBC’s Jonathan Dienst.

And Synder’s rapid descent into wingnut madness:

The state House on Thursday passed the bill 68-41 and sent it to Gov. Rick Snyder, one of many laws sped through a lame-duck session that did not conclude until early Friday morning. Aside from allowing concealed pistols in schools and other places, a number of measures are aimed at streamlining a permit process critics say remains far from uniform statewide.

His mom was a kindergarten teacher. She is one of the dead. It is suspected that most or all of the 18 children killed were her kindergarten class….. I don’t have a link, I am in Connecticut and some of my coworkers have kids/family in the school district. Now I want to go home and hug my college student…..

The gunman is Adam Lanza, Ryan’s 20yo brother. Looks like he killed his mom in her home, then went to her school to kill the kids in her kindergarten class.

One report I saw on NBC mentioned that Ryan was interviewed (he’s not a suspect) and gave some history of mental problems for Adam.
