… The Protestor?! From Occupy Wall Street to the bloody sands of Libya, the person who most changed our world in 2011 was the humble protestors. AKA brave patriots when the powers that be agree with their cause in a foreign land, dirty jobless hippies when the protests are here in America. And while choosing the pseudonymous collective as the recipient of an award meant for a single human seems a little bit lame, it also feels a little bit right.

One of those ‘persons’ is my son who occupied Halifax. He was there when the police dismantled the tents and worked to keep the crowd calm while at the same time asking the police to justify their actions. Most of them didn’t want to be there, but had no choice.
He’s definitely my person of the year. (with apologies to my other children)

I went to an Occupy protest, so I guess this is the third time I’ve been named “person of the year” wow.

Was at the #D12 Houston event Monday. We went straight for Port Authority CEO Alec Dreyer. Shut down the gates right next to Dreyer’s office for three hours. Was part of a group up on the embankment that got hundreds of truckers to honk their support as they were diverted from Exit 29. Trucks started rubbernecking, so HPD closed the right lane of the bridge. Got scared shitless by the psyops tent.
We sent two of our more “executive” looking members to the Public Comments meeting at the Port Authority on Tuesday. Dreyer resigned early that afternoon. Sure, Dreyer was under investigation for corruption charges, but we hit hard enough to shock rather than embolden him.
I’m pretty sure #D12 Houston was the biggest port protest outside of the west coast. Anyone from the Gulf or Atlantic know of a bigger event? I heard Newport News was going to try something, but can’t tell it worked.

Indeed I am, though I phrased my sentence as bait. I was going to see if anyone would start bashing Obama for his own rather bizarre award.
Kissinger was the real shark-jumper though. After him… All the other Nobels seem to be more or less appropriately awarded nowadays, but the Peace prize… Sometimes I wonder if they just put names on a wheel and spin it.
