World Octopus Day

Yesterday was World Octopus Day — 10/8, don’t you know — but I didn’t celebrate it…because every day is a cephalopod day in my heart. And you don’t get to shackle my heart to beat only one day a year.

The World Octopus – sounds a bit like a legendary creature on a par with the worm Ouroboros and it makes more sense.

You could even have a religious song “He’s got the whole world in his arms”

They also left out their eyesight. I thought I had read that they have some of the best visual equipment on the planet.

That bit about fitting through a hole the size of a quarter, combined with their camouflage, really gives them extraordinary survival gear. I still remember that video of the octopus taking out the shark. No wonder PZ loves these things. Impressive creatures. But not as tasty as pork.

for the last time, everyone who actually works on octopuses will tell you:

the plural for a group of the same kind of octopus is… octopus.

the plural for a bunch of different kinds is… octopuses.

just like we ichthyologists pluralize the word “fish”.

    works perfect, and is consistent.

    get with the program, people.

That’s one of those bullshit “infographics” that would work as least as well or better as simple text plus a couple of simple diagrams.
Another manifestation of the USATodayization of “educational” media.
