Guest post: Good wishes

Originally two comments by Julia S on The destroyer of worlds.

I also saw a comment under your name in a blogpost. I was a bit surprised as it was blatantly anti-trans but it seemed reasonable (as in, calm and non-slurry) and used similar language as you so I wasn’t incredulous about its authenticity. I was thinking about writing about or replying to it but decided against it. It’s uncool for someone to impersonate you, if that’s true and you didn’t just change your mind about a distasteful comment. Good wishes, Ophelia.

[I replied: Could you tell me where, please, so that I can do something about it?]

I would tell you if you weren’t such a transphobe (based on what you’ve said here, on this very blog).

It’s getting harder to tell who is sincerely trying to smear you, and who is merely trolling for drama. I suspect in this case the latter.

Interesting you needed to convert my comment into a blogpost to center your feelings again.

Since your minion above is trying to de-legitimize what I said by calling me a ‘troll’ (like you trivialized tranwomen’s experiences by being ‘gender critical’) I’ll tell you where I saw it.

The comment is now gone. You can contact the author of that post to confirm it. I don’t really care, tbh.

I left a comment to Julia S on the previous thread. This particular gem:

    I don’t really care, tbh.

solidifes my feeling that Julia S has a highly selective sense of outrage. Sure, people may be impersonating someone during a legitimate disagreement, but hey, no skin of my back, right?

I got the feeling that she was saying “I think you’re a transphobe, so you deserve what you get”. That’s a fairly rotten way to look at the world. Even though I detest people like Dean Esmay and Cathy Brennan, I would never support, encourage, or *aid* someone impersonating them, or threatening them. We can disagree without spreading more hate, or hoping for bad things to happen to people.

And besides which, Ophelia is not a transphobe, ffs.

This Julia S seems to have been putting a lot of effort into saying that she doesn’t care to say anything. That makes no sense to me.

In my view, anyone who thinks Ophelia hasn’t been sensitive to gender and trans issues seems to me to be someone who desperately needs to meet a broader range of people. Where does one go to meet only people who are more sensitive and considerate and concerned with justice?

Let’s review the symptoms this post exhibits…
    – Smarmy disparagement for turning a comment into a blog post
    – Implication that a commenter is not thinking for himself
    – Incredibly weak riposte game
    – Declaration of not actually caring, despite all appearence

    Diagnosis: arsehole confirmed, slymepitter likely.
