Meanwhile Dave Silverman went on Fox News to talk about their nonsense about omigod who will stand up for Christmas. They made him sit between Shmuley Boteach and Bill [argh] Donohue.
The Fox person was outraged because there was a Satanic monument of some kind placed next to omigodnononononothehorror the ten commandments – as if it were universally agreed that the ten commandments were the best thing ever. The ten commandments are horrible. Don’t kill, don’t steal, don’t lie – that’s the closest they get to anything like morality, and that’s a pretty pathetic showing. Yes no kidding, we know that, how about a little more? How about something a little affirmative, that might take more effort than just not killing people? (Believe it or not I don’t actually want to kill people.)
And the Fox person was also completely humorless about Festivus.
And despite all that Dave won so ha.

Started this video thinking “I wonder if Schmuley Boteach is more reasonable here than when he’s debating Hitchens?”
I got to the point of him indignantly going “My God doesn’t encourage genocide or animal sacrifice!”
Have any of these religionists ever LOOKED in their books?
Al Dente says
Many of them haven’t or if they have their reading has been very selective.
SC (Salty Current), OM says
Bill Donohue is the satirical character Tom Wolfe wishes he could write.
John Morales says
Huh. The host no less opinionated than the guests.
zibble says
Also, wtf is with them laughing at Silverman for his “Christians stole Christmas from the pagans” comment? I understand if their viewers are too ignorant to know that basic fact, but there’s no way Bill, Gretchen, and Schmuley didn’t know exactly what he was talking about.
Nothing gets my dander up more than derisive Conservative laughter: “HAHA, that fact wasn’t approved by the conservative bubble! HAHAHA”
Cuttlefish says
Well, of course, there’s a card for that:
[front]
As we battle our way through the line at the store
And think to ourselves “there has got to be more”
And wonder where “Christmas of long ago” went,
When the meaning of Christmas was what it first meant…
[inside]
It was stolen by Christians from heathens, of course—
From Greeks and from Romans, from Celtics and Norse—
Why, Christmas is pagan, from yule-log to tree
To mistletoe waiting for you and for me
The meaning of Christmas—the good stuff, at least—
The ornaments, stockings, and “rare Who roast beast”
Has nothing to do with a Son of God’s birth
But rather the changing of seasons on Earth
The nights now grow shorter, the days will grow longer,
The rays of the sun (and our spirits) grow stronger!
So celebrate Solstice, rejoice in the season,
And love one another whatever the reason!

I like that there is a nice monument with graven images that says to not make graven images.

Love the way the three “Judeo-Christians” associate the atheist with Satanism, as if he must believe in/worship “the devil” if he doesn’t believe in “god.”
Gordon Willis says
Absolutely hilarious! Barking. Quite cheered me up.
Gregory in Seattle says
Let us keep the Sol in Solstice!
UnknownEric the Apostate says
I don’t know how David Silverman can go on that show with those people without ripping out his own hair. I salute his iron stomach.
rnilsson says
And, he doesn’t even have a little hat to keep it on! Even more amazing.
I notice Bill’s is almost gone by now. (He’d have to staple on his Yarmulka if he were Jewish 🙂 )
Sorry, but it serves him right.
footface says
Got-DAMN but these shows are aggravating. When Silverman tries to quote the Bible to Donohue, in defense of his point about Christianity stealing the Solstice, he gets shot down. “YOU’RE going to tell ME about the Bible! Absurd!” End of argument.
These religious types (maybe not ALL religious types, but the ones on display in that clip) couldn’t care less about discussion. It’s all about declaiming and insinuating with them.
ludicrous says
I have to say it, David Silverman is god! Not only that, he is on our team!
juice says
That Rabi just made fun of “slaughtering goats” to appease a god.
Ivo says
And I love the very last sentence:
“… we have another HUGE story coming up: volunteer fire-fighters could incur a lot of hurt, because of Obamacare.”
Of course, by “I love” I actually mean “Fox-News? NEWS??? WTF…”.
rogerfirth says
Actually, Donohue would use *crazy* glue.
DanDare says
Farque! She addressed no questions to DS, talked over him to join in with the dim wits on left and right, listened to nothing and still Dave Silverman got clear messages through and slaughtered the wingnuts.
Carol Sperling says
She wouldn’t want her kids to see a Festivus display? So she has no intention of teaching them about free speech ? Another example of a god virus defending itself in the mind of a host victim.
Stevarious, Public Health Problem says
Why the hell is a rabbi talking about whether or not any of the founding fathers were Satanists? It’s not like any of them were jewish.
