Interestingly, there were several members of the Irish National Group (our resident racist organisation) present. Many holding nationalistic signs which had nothing to do with the march. As for Youth Defence, scumbags doesn’t begin to cover it.

I missed most of the protest due to bus route diversion because of cordoned off roads. I arrived in this particular area of town in the aftermath of protest. By all accounts, tensions were flying high in many directions. For instance, I saw another disturbing video where a young man was nailed to the ground by a gang of people, and was subsequently arrested, for what nobody seemed know at all. It appeared he was just expressing his views.

I thought I’d never live to see the day when the issue of abortion would be discussed in Dail Eireann. It was the fly in the ointment that no politician wanted to touch for fear of losing their seats. I have to pinch myself to believe it is all now being thrashed out at long last. Doubtless, there will be casualties along the way, but none worse than that of Savita.
