I now believe in God, and his name is Wolfram Alpha

Holy shit watch the overview of what this new site can do. It’s like Google and Wikipedia had a baby genius. So…much…data! *nerdgasm*

While every other person is probably spending their weekend drinking or playing videogames or having sex, I will be entering random questions into this website. I mean, I was pretty much sold at its abilities to do integrals, but searching genomes for a certain DNA sequence? Hell yeah.

Wolfram Alpha, I love you.

Launches Monday I think. Tonight is the webcast on starting it up. Need to ask it how to reverse entropy..I like that it doesn’t index information.. (like google) it calculates. (need to hear some dramatic music every time I hear that.)

Wolfram rocks! Also, do keep an eye out for their Mathematica Player. I downloaded some very cool explanatory visuals that run on their player. For example: 3D models of common organic molecules, a 3D periodic table that displayed differing physical qualities (Atom Size, electronegativity, etc), and a program that demonstrated the Mean Value Theorem of calculus!

I don’t think the launch went like they had hoped. Hope they get the problems solved quickly.

Was playing with it today, I’m actually impressed that they have a base level search engine (all be it in the field of data) that is doing simple algebra equations. The technology to do so has been around on the calculator level for a while, but I’m pretty sure this is the first instance I’ve seen online where a web front technology has solved algebra equations.

It’s worth saying that Wolfram himself is an asshole. As in major league asshole that most academics don’t like associating with.
