    I can sometimes see the vague shape of where these things are going, but I never get the punchline prematurely because I haven’t seen/heard the original thing they’re riffing on.

    I just found a message from George Pastis -the creator of Pearls Before Swine- showing a joke from 10 years ago where Rat campaigns on a promise to invade Greenland.
    .
    Also in a treaty between Denmark and USA in 1916 USA recognises the Danish sovereignty over Greenland in return for the Virgin Islands, which literally includes Epstein Island. The irony is sweet.
