2025 was a no good, very bad year. I would like to think that the coming year will be better but since nearly all the things that made this year awful are all pretty much still in place, the likelihood of that happening is slight.
But despite that, I would like to hope that at least in your personal lives, the coming year brings good things. It is admittedly a very modest hope but it is all that I can genuinely summon up.

I’d like to think that last year was a wake-up call, and maybe this year we’ll be able to organize better (although the organizational talent shown last year was pretty phenomenal already), start restoring guardrails to our government. But then again, I’m somewhat of an optimist.
Despite what is happening in the US and the world in general, 2025 was personally the best year I’ve had in a while. Looking forward to 2026.
Lotta shit happened to the US last year and no doubt more to come, but I have faith in my American friends and relatives they will eventually dig their way out of it. Persevere and find the personal joys wherever you can.

-Outside USA life goes on. I follow tech news and medical news, and the progress is slow but steady. The problems we face are with the leaders of nations. Many of them have been elevated precisely because they will block “inconvenient” solutions (So are many of the US senators, including some Democrats. The last part is a problem the Dems must solve).
“Live long and prosper” (although my take would have both pair of fingers crossed).

(first-time commenter): I officially retired 2 years ago (before all this MAGA bs. went down) and other than worrying that SS would be trashed (I so far still get payments), as well as the threats to Medicare, I have been fine this year (despite being a relative lifetime labor peon, I ended up with enough supplemental IRA income to live on). Anyway, I sympathize with anyone in financial distress, and perhaps naively hope for a removal of the SS cap and something like Medicare for all.
Trump just kidnapped Maduro. So much for good hopes for this year. I predict lots of shit hitting the fan.
