Former chair of the Republican National Committee Michael Steele shared his insight as to when he knows that Donald Trump is lying, though it might be more useful to have guidance on when he is not lying because those moments are the exceptional ones.

I thought the main “tell” was that Trump was speaking but I stand corrected.
On my system the next video was about the US win at the World Cup. https://crooksandliars.com/cltv/2019/07/french-bar-crowd-chants-fck-trump-live
I am not sure but I do not think that the French are solid Trump fans.
I am not much of a sports fan so I missed most of this but a Globe and Mail reporter was not that impressed with the US team, though undoubtedly they are superb footballers. Clearly the best in the world.
Still his headline was interesting Two toxic legacies of Women’s World Cup: Hatred of VAR and loathing of Team U.S.A.
Apparently the US team has not endeared itself to the rest of the football world. Hatred of VAR and loathing of Team U.S.A.

jrkrideau @1: That article captured my feelings about VAR and the US team fairly well. But, being an England and Canada supporter, I like to focus on things other than winning (it’s like being a Maple Leafs fan :-(). There was some nice football. It would have been great to see the US beaten, if only to see if they are as horrendous at losing as they are at winning. I suspect so, and we may get to see that at the Olympics.
About the video: Steele actually advised journalists to not report on Trump’s lies? WTF?
Rob Grigjanis says
jrkrideau @1: Just saw the video you linked. Those were US fans, not French ones. And good for them.

Rob,
I don’t think Steele was saying that they should not report his lies. I think the point he was making that Trump’s lies are worthless and purely self-serving so why bother to report them?
I don’t think it is a particularly good suggestion but that is what I think he meant.

Very occasionally, he actually tells the truth. Not intentionally of course, the random-word-chain engine in his head just… sometimes flukes one.
