Comedic round up of the news

This has been a manic week in US politics even by Trump standards, and the comedy shows were hard pressed to cram in all that happened. Both Seth Meyers and Samantha Bee paid close attention to the student walkouts all across the nation is support for real gun control. This clearly has the NRA and Republicans worried because political views are often shaped by one’s experiences as a young adult so they fear losing this generation. Being total reactionaries on women’s, minorities, and LGBT rights was bad enough but did not cause this kind of mass protests.

One sign of the NRA’s concern can be seen in the fact that even I got an email out of the blue from the Media Liaison of the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action just prior to yesterday’s walkout. It was addressed to ‘Ohio reporters’ and offered me the names of students who opposed gun control for me to interview.

Here is Meyers talking about the news.

And here is Bee doing the same in her inimitable style.

Some of these republicans dismissing these young protesters as “children” seem to forget that many of them will be eligible to vote in the upcoming mid-term elections, and almost all of them will be eligible to vote in 2020. Regardless of their ages they can work for candidates favoring their viewpoints.
