The things people get mad about

This video of a woman at a fast food restaurant who got enraged when she saw another couple exchanging a kiss has to be seen to be believed. As she started her tirade, the male member of the kissing couple recorded what happened next and then later gave his version of what led up to the altercation.

I understand that there are people who are uncomfortable with public displays of affection. What the video shows is how, when we get really angry, the rhetoric can escalate rapidly and we end up saying things that are absolutely counter to the facts and make charges that are ludicrous and that we will regret later.

I have been in such situations and responded irrationally though nowhere close to the level of absurdity shown here. This video is a good lesson on the need to take a deep breath and count to ten when you are in a situation where your personal buttons are being pushed and you are furious.

I admire how calm the couple being attacked and the staffer were while the woman had a melt-down. Were is she from? Ar Riyadh or, perhaps, Kabul?

They were feeding a troll. No matter how calm, they talked way too much.
When you must talk to such a person (because neglecting is extremely hard) the only useful way to deal with her (him) is to mock her (him). Agree with her (him) in every respect and give her (him) silly compliments. She calls the woman a slut? Call her an angel sitting on God’s lap. She says she’s sexually harassed? Confirm.
She was determined to freak out from the very beginning.

    mnb0, whatever.

    Point being:

The woman merely had a moment. She was no troll, just a human.

These videos always have me smacking my head that the business owners/managers aren’t calling the police themselves. They instead let these tirades drag on and on, frustrating the many respectful customers. I’m not going to hang around a venue when someone is having a meltdown waiting to see if they pull out a gun. Kick these people OUT!

    G Pierce,

I think the employees behind the counter are often low-level ones and have limited options and may be unsure what to do. They are usually under orders to be nice to customers and could lose their jobs if they make the wrong move. Note how the woman threatens to talk to the manager about his lack of action against the couple. The employee may have not been sure what action to take and against whom. It can take a while for them to be sure that one person has taken things too far and is to be targeted to leave.

I think I heard in the audio that police had been called but of course they take some time to respond.

Yep. Been there working at a McDonalds back in college. We were to leave it to managers to handle such situations (of which there were few). Still, there would always be at least one manager available, which actually means there would generally be two at most times so that when one takes a break, the other would be the one available.
