More adventures in bad driving

A driver decides to calmly leave her car and stroll away while it is still in the middle of a busy boulevard in California and the engine is running and of course, as this dash cam video taken by the car behind shows, with highly predictable consequences. Fortunately, no one seems to have got hurt.

Technically it’s no longer driving once she’s left her car.

You can trust me, I work for bylaw.

It doesn’t appear to be the case in the video, I assume the car with the video camera isn’t a police car, and hasn’t been mistaken for a police car, but it isn’t unknown for people in vehicles thinking they might be arrested to leave the car running and in gear so the police have to choose between going after the person or stopping the car and preventing a potentially serious accident.

Lucky for the school bus (@34 s) this didn’t happen moments sooner.
Don’t ever read YouTube sociopathic comments cesspit , but this one might be useful

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 22-year-old Jasmine Lacey of San Bernardino, was taken to a hospital for “a non injury-related reason” before CHP officers arrived on scene, the CHP said.“(Lacey) was later contacted and identified at St. Jude Medical Center facility and, after investigation of the traffic collision, was arrested for DUI,” a CHP officer said. But Lacey was released from custody early Saturday due to insufficient evidence to support a criminal complaint, according to Los Angeles County booking records

Hmmm, the driver of the dash-cam car is consistently driving awfully close… just my personal bugbear.

Nothing wrong with an automatic (or CVT). It’s just that drivers can’t be arsed to use the hand-brake and select park position at any time except when they leave the car. Or, in this case, not even then. But you’re right -- N.America does seem to produce a lot of ‘runaway car’ videos.
