The idea has been ‘out there’ for a long time. It’s humane and financially sensible. The only thing stopping it is stupid pseudo-moralistic nonsense about encouraging ‘moochers’. Obscene, hurtful nonsense that seems to permeate our society.

An even better idea that was proven to work in the 1970s in Manitoba: the ‘Mincome’ -- the minimum income experiment.
Even some Conservatives like the former Senator Hugh Segal [granted he is a Canadian Red Tory in the Progressive Conservative Party] are promoting a guaranteed annual salary for everyone.
Rob Grigjanis says
krambc: Segal gave an excellent talk on this.

Giving things away while saving money doesn’t go over well with the moralists and good things must hurt crowd. To many of that sort paying the dentist more to drill their teeth without Novocaine makes more sense in is more morally satisfying. I mean … having cavities filled without excruciating pain will make people want to eat candy all day.

Well, I for one am outraged! In fact, I am going to walk away from my house this very night and go sleep in a doorway until I get housing rent-free too! True, I will lose my car, and my job in a nice climate-controlled building, and my heavily subsidized healthcare, and the ability to eat out whenever I feel like it, or go see a movie on a whim, but by God I won’t be a sucker tax-payer anymore!
Say, I will still get to watch Fox News in my free housing, won’t I?
