Truth or no consequences

Legendary journalist I. F. Stone said, “Every government is run by liars and nothing they say should be believed.” But it used to be the case that if they were caught in a flat out lie, they paid at least some price, at a minimum in some form of public shaming and the lie usually was not repeated. But that no longer seems to be the case and we now have zombie lies that never die and zombie liars who don’t stop repeating them.

Bill Maher goes after all those people who lie without any consequences. We had the neoconservatives who lied us into the Iraq war and then those who lied about Obamacare. And it doesn’t stop there.

We really should be concerned when our public discourse has reached a stage where public figures can simply flat-out lie and not be called to account.

I don’t care how witty the joke is, it is always ruined in my mind by the fact that it comes from Smug Wanker Maher.

Who are you going to believe: me or your own eyes?

    -Groucho Marx.

It is common with small children for them to believe that if they say something often enough it will somehow become true. Have these people kept doing this now they’ve grown up [?] or do they think that their certainty will persuade other people?

“Their nerve-ends are rubber; they don’t understand why I smile when they tell me obvious, deliberate lies .. at first I thought they were hyper-cool, but now I suspect they don’t even realise they’re lying.”

Sounds like every gf I’ve ever had…
