    And then there’s the mistranslation of the Hebrew word is “עלמה” (almah) in Isaiah, which scholars agree means a young woman of child-bearing age, without any connotation of virginity and has caused no end of trouble.

    Uhh… yeah… So the town that Jesus is close to when he finds the unripe fig tree — Bethphage — literally means “house of unripe figs” in Aramaic.

    Funnily enough, related to the sign, the Greek word for fig is where we get the word sycophant.
