I used to really like Ricky Gervais, but despite the other good things he’s done (and despite his fairly horrible attempt at an ad for Disability Awareness), again and again he’s chosen to use people with disabilities as joke fodder, not even in a sympathetic way but more in a “here’s how to make fun of the odd-looking guy” way. That fantastic piece that Natalie Reed wrote on Hipster misogyny? Hipster mocking-the-disabled is just as disturbing.
