The best thing about Christmas

As one who sang in a choir for the annual Christmas carol service during my college days, I think that the best thing about Christmas is the music. (I am talking about the carols only, not the cheesy Christmas ‘songs’, almost all of which I detest with a passion.) I do not agree with the theology implicit in the carols, but the music is great and the general sentiments of peace and goodwill are worthy.

Some people in a shopping mall food court get an unexpected treat, courtesy of a flash mob.

Absolutely agree with you! I, too, once sang in a choir that rivaled the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus (in my mind). It wasn’t the meaning of the songs or the sentiment that I loved. It was the way a group of people could create such a splendid sound. It was the combined talent of the ensemble and the artistic direction that created an emotion. To me, it has always been a “spiritual” experience to sing.

    Thanks for posting this.

PS: I love the way many people adhered to the tradition of standing up during the Hallelujah Chorus -- even in a mall! LOL!

What a great idea. Some of those folks looked like they were wondering what in the world was going on. Some had the look of thinking the world was coming to an end or something -- lol. I appreciate you posting this.

And I agree with you that the theology in some carols is pretty screwed up, but the songs nevertheless remind me of the goodness in the world.
