St. Louis’ No Kings march seems to have gone well. Our NPR station has a much better description than anything I could write.
Our MAGAt governor called out the National Guard and nothing happened. One of my senators actually “blamed” the protest on George Soros. (I couldn’t make that up.) I’m laughing at both of them.
nice photos at the npr link!
@Bill, doncha know that Soros was in every No Kings protest in every town and city in every state, handing out thousand-dollar bills to each and every protester? That’s the kind of talking points that are going around.
I don’t think “no kings” is a good mantra. But then I’m an academic. I think people should be pasting pieces of Rousseau’s “Le Contrat Social” everywhere. The point of that is: if you’ve got horsemen beating the crap out of the peasants, you are trying to re-establish your legitimacy through violence. That’s cute, and that’s fine but when you violate the social contract you become an occupying power and the people owe you NOTHING (taxes or service or food) and the more violent they get the less the people should re-enter into a social contract with them. Boom.
Whether it’s Soros or not “why are you de-legitimizing your establishment?” seems like a tough question.
