Sad news: Tanith Lee has died. I first discovered her when I was in college, and was a bit of a fanatic — tasty dark fantasy written in lovely prose. When I get home I’ll have to find my Lee collection and reread a few…unless my wicked daughter has stolen them all. She might have.
Dan Barker is here in Köln, too, and he told me about this strange statue of a 13th century archbishop on the Rathaus. He’s standing on a grotesque.
Closeup below the fold.
Today was my free day — a post-conference breather and a chance to explore Köln, rather than lurching off on the next available plane. So I did! First thing this morning I grabbed a map and headed off on a walking tour.
I have arrived at my hotel in Köln. I did not sleep at all on the flight. It is a bright sunny morning here in Germany, and I’m still wide awake. I’m afraid my brain has been whipsawed through so many time zones lately that it has decided screw it, it’s not going to bother sorting out that pointless sleep/wake cycle anymore, which probably means I’ll muddle along in a delirium until I die.
Who decided we should live on a spinning sphere anyway? It makes no sense.
I’m flying away again, off to Deutschland. So tired already. But I’ll be back on Dienstag to stay home for a while!
There has been some talk of a meetup on Donnerstag; I’m game. I get in that morning and have the day free, so whatever people work out in the comments is fine.
We had to miss an important part of Skatje and Kyle’s wedding, because we had an early morning flight the next day: the making of the lefse. That’s right, my weird daughter spent her wedding night making lefse for friends and family.
Warning: this post is about trigger warnings. I know many people are hypersensitive to these things, even to the point of being deeply offended by them, so I thought I’d be nice and let you know what’s coming up before proceeding below the fold.
For a few days. So trolls, please scurry away to your dark corners again.
Skatje Myers and Kyle Hughart, 16 May 2015.
I only cried a little bit.
