It has been brought to my attention that way too many Americans have no idea what the Infinite Monkey Cage is, and that I have to enlighten you. It is Brian Cox and Robin Ince and a few other guests talking about science and comedy.

For some reason, though, I think it would have been even more amusing if Mr Smear had an Irish accent.
I am not a fan of the Harry Potter books (what was that noise? So that’s what a million people simultaneously unsubscribing sounds like!) — my kids enjoyed them, we’ve got all of them around here somewhere, and I read the first couple of them, but they were just a bit too repetitive for my taste, and also too familiar. But don’t worry, I can understand how a lot of people liked them.
But now I’ve read a rewrite of the main story line, with Hermione as the main character. Much better! That’s a story I’d read to the end!
Why haven’t I seen Squidtoons before? The name should have sucked me right in. (Even though I’ve discovered that not all the comics are about squid…but that’s OK, it’s all sea life.)
Whoa, Oglaf had a very insightful panel today. As you can tell from the fact that I’ve blurred out part of that first panel and have cut out most of the comic, it is most definitely not safe for work — it takes place at a sex competition — but that last line is wonderful.
Sex exists by replicating itself but not for anything.
I was out for my morning walk, and stopped by the lab to take care of fish, and then by my office to grab another stack of papers that need grading. They were unexpectedly heavy. I think my weekend is about to get longer and more miserable.
Wow, but Ursula K. LeGuin is good.
It’s sad, but it had to happen. Minnesota and Wisconsin are two Northern states, with similar past reputations as progressive and lefty, but we’ve grown apart, and it’s time for a divorce.
