I may not be able to see this movie

This sounds like a fascinating, factual documentary.

Oscar-winner Alex Gibney’s 4-hour documentary about Elon Musk may be the most important film of the year. After the first two hours, audiences will learn that he is better at engineering everything around him to suit his ego and his bank account than he is at engineering his many products. We see the damage he has inflicted, including horrific dash-cam footage of fatal accidents involving self-driving cars. Many who watch it will be rattled but consider it as remote if they don’t buy a Tesla or have stock in SpaceX.

The second two hours are when it gets really scary, because that is when audiences learn how he affects every one of our lives, in the United States and throughout the world. Gibney asks, “How could Musk assume so much power and why had we given it to him?”

Musk hates it. What’s really scary, though, and demonstrates the chilling effect billionaires have on our lives, is that it’s already being censored.

The documentary is facing more than a war of words from Musk, however. The film’s distributor, Bleecker Street, has not been able to run paid advertisements on several major social media platforms. As of Sept. 25, YouTube, Meta, TikTok and X had all refused. YouTube, where the trailer had been available through regular channels, and Meta have since reversed course, saying that it had been flagged for “political content.”

There are also concerns about whether “Musk” will eventually land on HBO as originally planned in the aftermath of the Skydance merger, the new entertainment giant created by Paramount’s takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. CEO David Ellison’s father, Larry Ellison, is friendly with Musk.

WOoooOOOOOooooo! Who needs Hallowe’en when the ghouls have taken over?

If that’s just too depressing for you, here’s a comic to cheer you up.

Oh, what a happy fantasy!

(There’s a whole series of anti-billionaire comics at that site. Expect the creator to be censored soon.)

There are a lot of Tesla cars in my area and a lot of them are new.
I can’t even imagine why anyone would buy one though.

My friend’s brother had a Tesla car.
And yeah, it was old, he bought it before we knew Musk was crazy.

    Had and was.
A few months ago, it spontaneously caught fire in his driveway with a battery fire.
The fire department is set up to put those out with difficulty and they got there just in time.
He is still dealing with it. Car totally destroyed, singed his house, singed his other car, and some fire damage to his neighbor’s yard.

I will never buy anything even remotely associated with Musk.
No Tesla cars, no Starlink, no satellite launches, no X not twitter.

Considering his technology interests: does anyone know whether he’s connected to Sirius Cybernetics Corporation?

For anyone who hasn’t been paying any attention in the 21st century.

It is Elon Musk again, who has helpfully emphasized his complete racism.

    Whyatt Stag
White people have a simple choice to make:

    1. Be conquered, enslaved, raped and genocided while being called “racist”.
    2. Reclaim our nations and our dignity while being called “racist”.
    It’s that simple.

    Elon Musk Yes

This is a copy of a recent post on X.
Whyatt Stag is nobody, an anonymous white racist.

What is noteworthy is that Elon Musk is agreeing with him.

What is also noteworthy is how stupid it is and how stupid Elon Musk is.

No, we white people aren’t being conquered, enslaved, raped, and genocided.
In fact, it is the other way around.
Right now, white people dominate the entire world and frequently fight wars and attack the less than white parts of the world. So far the USA has attacked Iraq, Afghanistan, and lately Iran, Venezuela, and Houthi Yemen. We have Cuba and Greenland as next on the list.

Censoring this movie is EVIL! Let’s find a way to censor all the magat media crap!
    and
@1 raven said: There are a lot of Tesla cars in my area
I reply: I love seeing the rusting cybertruks here. I have stainless steel items that are over a half-century old. Real stainless steel DOES NOT RUST! The muskrat’s stainless steel cyberfuks always rust!

The thing that scares me most about Musk is his Starlink network. He controls too much of what can be seen from space and the information network up there. He gets to decide who can access this stuff.

I do not want to think about his rockets and potential bases on nearby planets and moons.

  6. birgerjohansson says

    Recursive Rabbit @ 7

In Death Note, there is a god of death. But the muskrat probably sacrificed a bunch of infants to Mammon and Priapus. So the question is, which evil gods are stronger? And, can we summon Beerus to sort things out?

  7. John Morales says

According to Forbes, Oprah Winfrey, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter are five verified self-made women entertainers with individual net worths of $1 billion or more.

Oprah is the only one with whom I am even slightly familiar, but I’d be happy to see her blow up.
The others, I have no clue. But they are attested billionaires.

(Madonna is to be spared, she’s only worth $850M or so, as are multiple others in that category)

  8. John Morales says

Rob, point. And for sure the Kardashian started the game of life on the easiest setting.

Still, she could have stayed a trust fund kid, instead of building a business empire.

    Anyway, ceteris paribus, yes.
Self-made, worked for it, canny business dealings, in contrast to the heiresses whose wealth is inherited.

  9. dangerousbeans says

Quick, bring up the 10% of billionaires that are women for some reason. And focus on the few who are black women

    @shermanj
Stainless is more complex than that. Different alloys can rust in different situation. Apparently the cybertruck is 301, or maybe some proprietary 30x series stainless, so it’ll rust in salty environments. Also being around exhaust fumes from other vehicles, and the manufacturing process might affect it

  10. Walter Solomon says

I don’t use most of those platforms and the one I do use, namely YouTube, I don’t pay for. I guess I’m doing my part.

  11. John Morales says

    dangerousbeans:

Quick, bring up the 10% of billionaires that are women for some reason.

Is the reason so very opaque for you?
They are not Elon Musk or Peter Thiel, but they certainly are they billionaires.
If every billionaire explodes, they will too. It’s a categorical claim.

If there is no subset specified, whatever is said of billionaires applies to them too, approaching 500 of them as I write this.
Right? Universal claim, so any example I pick matches.

And focus on the few who are black women

I already told you I know little about them, other than that they are billionaires.

I focused on the top 5 women who were entertainers. Nothing there about racemelanin.
Others made their billions via business ventures, but not those.

I find your racial focus is kinda weird and desperate, but informative; also, be aware the current term is ‘Black’, not ‘black’.

  12. seversky says

I don’t have so many hours left that I want to waste four of them watching a movie about Musk.

  13. dangerousbeans says

@Morales I find your eagerness to defend billionaires entirely expected from you. As is your disingenuous rhetoric
I’m sure if you lick their boots well enough they won’t discard you like they do everyone else

  14. John Morales says

dangerousbeans, I defend nothing. Zero defence.

You are fabulating. And, clearly, provoking me to respond to you.

    (In that, you’ve been successful)

Again: If every billionaire explodes, they will too; it’s a categorical claim, and they are billionaires.
    Ineluctable logic.

    As is your disingenuous rhetoric

Every accusation is a confession; I was damn straight with you: “Is the reason so very opaque for you? […]
Right? Universal claim, so any example I pick matches.”

That is not disingenuous at all, and it is a proposition, not rhetorical at all other than as subtext.

I’m sure if you lick their boots well enough they won’t discard you like they do everyone else

Projecting your own proclivities. Informative, if sad.

That you perceive me as some sort of boot-licker says much about you, and your alleged sureness is itself rhetorical.

    (Tsk)

  16. beholder says

Watching Swift and Pritzker explode? Now that’s my kind of trolley problem.

(It doesn’t really matter what the other choice is, I just want to press the button that makes all the billionaires “Go Galt”.)

  17. says

I take any talk of “self-made” with a very large pinch of salt. Everyone I have ever met who says “You make your own luck in this life” turned out to have found a good-sized chunk of luck just lying in their path one day, while no-one was looking.

And no-one acquires a billion pounds without harming someone.

  18. kenbakermn says

I think the explosions should start at two or three billion, otherwise we would also lose Taylor Swift. That’s right, I’m a Swiftie, I said what I said.

We also have to carve out an exception for Mackenzie Scott and others who are true philanthropist.

  19. says

If Musk had managed to keep his inner racist in check he’d probably be on his way to winning a Nobel Prize for Peace or similar honour at this point for his involvement with electric cars and solar power. Instead his evil character has become obvious.

shermanj@10 if Musk were ever deported he’d probably get sent here to Canada, and we don’t want him. Last week he called on Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Quebec to separate from Canada. He’d probably cause direct havoc if he was residing in Canada again.

Taylor Swift sounds like a good person for a billionaire. When her giant Eras tour ended she had given her touring crew close to 200 million dollars in bonuses. She also donated prime tickets to some shows that were auctioned off at ridiculous prices for charity.

Rihanna’s seems to have done good charity work, like donating money and equipment during the COVID pandemic.

Kim Kardashian? Famous for being famous.

As for Oprah I suspect she’s an actual horrible person who knows very well much of what she’s promoted is BS, but doesn’t care because it made her rich.

    What I said at 13

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/oct/14/ukraine-soldiers-combat-access-starlink-satellite-internet-restricted

Ukraine’s military has suddenly had its access to Starlink satellite internet terminals restricted as the Trump administration has increased pressure on Ukraine to halt long-range strikes on Russia’s oil industry immediately.

The terminals, which are distributed and managed by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, are a key component of Ukraine’s military operations and the sudden restrictions on the terminals travelling at high speeds on Tuesday evening led to the failure of several combat missions, said an adviser on military technology to Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

  21. Kagehi says

How do you know here is an abnormal number of idiots in my city? Because, there are at least three Tesla’s being driven around all the time, in a fairly small town, half the people who don’t have one have Trump stickers on their cars, and, as an irony, given Trump’s hatred of most “clean energy” things, we just got our first EV charging station (never mind that the city is in the middle of no place, and nothing here is either far enough, or close enough, to make having one worth it), and… its a Tesla station. So.. Yeah, they ignored all evidence that a) Tesla has never updated their standard for charging, b) short of redesigning the connector, they never can, c) they design basically just uses an extra connection to designate if you are using slow charging, or what Tesla called (and still does) “fast”, which was built explicitly for their battery packs, and d) this means that your modern, literally any other modern EV in existence car cannot negotiation charging power with their station, and will always either charge in “slow” mode, or in “Tesla” mode, which is ALSO slow. Something any idiot, other than a Tesla owner, could figure out in less than a minute of research.

So, yeah – prime Elon (and the people that work for him) – even if something doesn’t work well, can’t be improved on, or just flat out isn’t possible (like building giant rockets that defy literal real world physical limitations), keep doing it anyway, and ignore everyone that tells you it won’t work, is a stupid idea, is a bad design, or possibly no one even wants, other than Musk and the people deluded into believing he is a genius.

  22. lotharloo says

Probably the only caveat I would put forward to “no good billionaires” is if the said billion(s) are the result of some random math calculations which could be hard to liquidate or get loans for.

  23. Nick Wrathall says

    Akira MacKenzie @ 34.
You are correct. They need to be assassinated or executed or otherwise murdered.

It is disappointing to see so many commenters here with such overt blood lust.
How far apart are billionaires and immigrants or billionaires and trans athletes or billionaires and (insert your preferred scapegoat) as convenient targets?
Our economic system promotes wealth accumulation, and above a certain level it self-accumulates. The system that allows this to happen is the only legitimate target. Stop advocating the killing of those you don’t like.
There is only one billionaire I want to hear is dead. I don’t want them murdered – I want to hear that they had a massive stroke while taking their morning dump and died terrified and smeared in their own faeces.

  24. indianajones says

‘How far apart are billionaires and immigrants or billionaires and trans athletes’

Far enough. And pointing out that spontaneous explosion doesn’t happen is not advocacy for assisted explosion. It’s close, but it’s also far enough away. By Jonesy’s ‘I made it up just now’ measure of reasonableness that is. But I can defend it otherwise if so asked to I reckon.

How close, by your lights, is ‘want to hear is dead’ from ‘murdered’ and if that is also far enough away, what is the difference between these 2 examples? How do you measure or defend it? Also, if you do measure or defend it, please do so.

  25. says

@19 dangerousbeans said: Different alloys can rust in different situation. Apparently the cybertruck is 301, or maybe some proprietary 30x series stainless,
I reply: That is probably accurate and technically true today. However, when ‘rostfrei’ (tr. rustfree) was invented in Germany, the only alloys allowed to be called that would not rust. True stainless is not malleable and is difficult to form. Today, the 400 series of true stainless are still ‘rostfrei’. But, there are a lot of cheaper, inferior alloys that are used because they can more easily be formed into other shapes and they still call them ‘stainless’ and they rust and corrode easily. Muskrat’s crap is obviously poor quality and, like him, prone to serious corrosion.

  26. says

Back to the original theme: there are many works of propaganda and crap that are created that I don’t want to see. (fux news and answers in genesis, etc.) However, if you start arbitrarily censoring and banning works based on some personal distaste or twisted values system, then there is no freedom of expression and the growing fascist state wins.

0/10, boring concern troll, John Morales managed to pull off that shtick more elegantly.
