Truth Social is nothing but self-serving lies

Late last night, I got an alert with the good news that Iran and Israel were going to stop shooting missiles at each other.

US president Donald Trump has announced in a social media post that Iran and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire. On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, “THE 12 DAY WAR,” Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social. This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!

This was on social media, not the news, and was accompanied with sycophants yelling that now, they have to give Trump the Nobel Peace Prize. Also, it was a ceasefire, not yet the end of the war, so it was presumptuous to announce that not only was this the end of the war, but also that Trump was naming the war.

Then, a little later…

Just after 5am GMT, Trump posted to social media that a ceasefire was now in effect, adding PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! Earlier he told NBC the ceasefire was unlimited and would last forever.

A ceasefire is a ceasefire, so it’s a little desperate to then beg the opponents to NOT VIOLATE IT.

But then I wondered…when did Truth Social become an international news agency, with reporters publishing reports of actual events? It’s just Donald Trump sitting on a solid gold toilet tapping out his fantasies on his phone. You shouldn’t believe anything on Truth Social.

So I was not surprised this morning that Israel and Iran continue to exchange fire despite Trump’s ceasefire declaration.

Air raid sirens sounded in northern Israel at about 10.30pm, in response to what the Israeli military said was an Iranian missile launch, about two and a half hours after the ceasefire was first announced. Israeli reports said two missiles had been intercepted. Iran denied launching missiles after the ceasefire but Israel’s defence minister, Israel Katz, said he had ordered immediate retaliation on Tehran.

“I have instructed the IDF to respond forcefully to Iran’s violation of the ceasefire with powerful strikes against regime targets in the heart of Tehran,” Katz said in a statement. “In light of Iran’s complete violation of the ceasefire declared by the US president and the launch of missiles towards Israel … I have instructed the IDF … to continue the intense activity of attacking Tehran to thwart regime targets and terrorist infrastructures in Tehran, in continuation of the activity that took place yesterday.”

And now Trump is spittin’ mad because now he’s learning that his precious ceasefire and end of the war were built on wishes and farts and are dissipating in the same winds that are blowing away his credibility.

They don’t know what the f**k they’re doing: Trump lashes out at Israel and Iran

Neither do you, Donald. Neither do you.

And he’s not going to get the precious Nobel peace prize he so richly deserves‽ Waaah!

I have no hope that his cultists will re-evaluate their support despite “staying out of war” was a core promise.
Maybe 1 per cent here and there.

  3. F.O. says

    From the linked article:

Trump was critical of both sides, but reserved his harshest condemnation for Israel, who he said “unloaded” on Iran “as soon as we made the deal.”

    I can’t even.

The world is ran by cruel, incompetent, clueless morons.

  4. rorschach says

This whole governing by Tweet thing is completely ridiculous. Trump has 3 big, beautiful telephones on his desk, but he’s clearly so unable of effective communication and nuance, and so lacking in clout, that he resigns himself to yelling at people on social media.

  5. stuffin says

He is so jealous a black man (Obama) has a Nobel Peace Prize it is making him go ape shit crazy to try and land one. Wonder what he offered Pakistan for nominate him. Like Pakistan is the role model for peace.

It kinda sounds like last night’s TV news parroted “news” of the “cease-fire” — that’s where my roommate heard about it, and she never follows Trash Social. If so, that says a lot about America’s “news” media…

  7. says

“In light of Iran’s complete violation of the ceasefire declared by the US president…”

So Trump just “declared” it? The belligerent parties didn’t actually AGREE to have one? Has anyone ever told him that’s not really how cease-fires work?

  8. raven says

I can’t figure out what is going on here from reading multiple news reports.

.1. Was there even a cease fire agreement?
    Not known.

.2. Which country violated it first?
Probably they both did about the same time.

This is a long distance aerial war since Israel and Iran are a long ways apart with no common borders.
AFAICT, both nations are running out of missiles and drones.
Reports are that Israel is running out of its arrow-3 missile interceptor missiles.

They might as well declare a cease fire since they can’t keep this up for all that long.

Reginald Selkirk @ #1 — Merezhko actually had any sort of faith or belief in Taco? I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him…and I doubt I could pick him up.

birgerjohansson @ #2 — There was a “man on the street” type story yesterday about Trump supporters loosing their cool over the Iran attacks, particularly the US bombings. Not sure about the percentages but his numbers are already so low and seem headed down that golden toilet.

I’m pretty cynical about all this crap at this point, so I could easily imagine Taco scheming this whole bomb Iran business with Netanyahu with the intent of Taco making a big show of stepping in as the peacemaker so he could claim that prize. But then Netanyahu screws him over, while the Iranians aren’t even in on the deal.

He literally doesn’t know what the “f**k” he’s doing and he’s so crass that he’s dropping F-bombs. What a guy!

  10. raven says

Watching these whole Israel and US attacks on Iran, shows one thing clearly.

Iran is a helpless paper tiger.
The Theocrats who rule Iran are neither smart nor competent.

.1. Iran apparently has no air defenses against planes.
These are old and widespread systems and they could have set them up.

The Ukrainians managed to do that.
The Russians were never able to fly any of their planes over Ukraine to bomb them.
Which is why they only use cruise missiles and drones.

.2. The Iranian missiles are an impressive achievement for a developing nation.
However, they don’t seem to be able to aim them very well.
This makes them a lot less useful.

    Headline this morning.
BBC ‘It (an apartment building) took a direct hit’ – BBC at scene of Beersheba missile strike

That wasn’t the target. There is a military R&D complex in Beersheba.
Iran isn’t going to waste a valuable missile on an apartment building.

The Israelis seem to be able to identify and kill individual people with bombs from a long distance.

I noticed their aiming problem myself but it has also been mentioned on the news.

Their few allies can’t or won’t help them, i.e. Russia, China, and North Korea.
Their militias in other countries have been massacred and can’t do much any more.

Closing the Strait of Hormuz is silly.
Then they can’t get their 2 million barrels of oil out and sell it to China.

No friends, no allies, no air defenses, no functional militias left, running out of missiles they can’t aim very well.
They don’t have much going for them these days.

  11. says

.2. Which country violated it first?
Probably they both did about the same time.

Offhand, I’m guessing it went like this:
    1) Israel bombs Iran.
    2) Trump “declares” a “cease-fire.”
    3) Iran retaliates against Israel’s latest bombing as they were planning to do anyway; which enables Israeli propagandists to accuse Iran of “violating the cease-fire.”

  12. John Watts says

Trump launches an unprovoked, sneak attack on Iran and that now qualifies him for a Nobel? Then, Iran which really had little choice, agrees to a ceasefire to a war that Israel started. If those are the minimum criteria, then Putin should go to the head of the line for his own Nobel. Or why not Japan in 1941? You know, sneak attacks and all.

  13. rietpluim says

AFAIK, the only announcement of a cease-fire was by Trump on Lies Antisocial. Very professionally communicated. Really.

  14. notaandomposter says

from what I can tell-the cease fire was trump excreting on his platform that ‘now that the USA has acted – you two (Israel/Iran) must stop hostilities’ ….just a declaration by tweet – as if he were in authority over them (and other countries would obey his declarations) – no agreement between leaders of these 2 countries to violate

and no intelligence (in the military sense) shared that Iran’s nuclear threat was ‘imminent” nor that USA’s actions were definitively successful…just that apparently Trump collaborated w/ Bibi, was convinced that the time to act was NOW – and that Trump’s opinion/feeling was why we went to war. reason #100 to impeach

  15. robro says

I believe the journey looks like this:
    • Israel bombed Iran…again
    • Iran bombed Israel …again
    • the US bombed Iran…again
    • Iran threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz…which would adversely affect Trump’s promise to cut inflation, and further tank his poll numbers
    • Trumped declared there was a ceasefire (so he claim his Nobel)
    • Israel and Iran continued to bomb each other
    • Trump dropped an F-bomb as he leaves to go meet with his wonderful friends at the NATO conference

Fundamentalist Christian Nationalists are all gaga because war in the Middle East means, you know, Armageddon and Jesus comes back. First question to Jesus: Where have you been? We expected you 2000 years ago? What’s the matter…you dead or something.

notaandomposter @ #15 — You underestimate the reasons to impeach Taco by at least an order of magnitude, or two.

  20. numerobis says

silvrhalide: Israel bombed the entrance to Evin prison a couple days before the cease-fire. It’s unclear what they thought they could achieve by doing so — probably some romantic idea of the political prisoners fleeing and launching an uprising. Netanyahu said many delusional words about regime change.

The cease-fire doesn’t appear to be imaginary. Qatar was brokering it before the US got involved. All sides agreed to it. Israel claims that Iran fired at them, and that’s why they had to launch more strikes, while Iran claims they didn’t fire at Israel, and it’s just Israel who violated the agreement.

Most of the world still operates by the old concepts of diplomacy. Don’t believe that Trump is the entirety of global diplomacy just because he’s loud and dumb.

  21. silvrhalide says

@22 Whether the ceasefire was real or fictional (I lean towards the latter) it appears as if neither side ever intended to abide by it.

As for whether Israel bombed the Evin prison before, during or after the ceasefire, the fact remains that they bombed helpless trapped people. People who had no chance of survival against a direct hit. People who literally posed no threat to Israel because they were imprisoned. Who does that? Behold humanity at its ugliest.

Did the people who ordered the attack and who dropped the bombs get their start by pulling the wings off flies or shooting fish in a barrel? Asking for a friend. /s

  22. John Morales says

“Who does that? Behold humanity at its ugliest.”

    USA TODAY ‪@usatoday.com‬

A Pentagon report says the U.S. strikes against Iran’s nuclear program set them back a few months. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth denied the report.

    Here is the latest headline.

We and the Israelis have set the Iranian nuclear program back a few months.
And likely made their nuclear weapons programs from an option into a necessity.

The Pentagon is saying those 30,000 lb MOP bombs didn’t go deep enough.

I don’t see how anyone outside of Iran can know this sort of thing for sure.
Going forward, the Iranians aren’t going to be open about much of anything. Being bombed at will by the Israelis would tend to make anyone keep a low profile.

  25. numerobis says

    silvrhalide:

What are you on about? Israel didn’t want to kill any of the prisoners, it wanted to free them. These are the people who might lead a revolution — that’s specifically why the Iranian regime locked them up! Now, it’s pretty delusional to think that the Iranian population is going to see foreign bombs raining down and decide “yeah, today is a great day for a revolution” but it’s a delusion that many leaders in history have had, and presumably will continue to have forever.

The result: Iran says no prisoners were hurt, nor escaped. Which isn’t exactly a surprise. The trick is to have people storm the prison once the gate is blown up, and free the prisoners. Otherwise, you just have prisoners locked away in their cell blocks wondering what the big noise and commotion was about.

  26. says

Israel didn’t want to kill any of the prisoners, it wanted to free them.

But as you admitted in your very next paragraph, Israel’s action had no chance of accomplishing that goal. It was nothing more than a gesture — a very risky gesture for whoever was in that prison — to pretend Beginyahu really wanted to help the Iranian people overthrow their government.

  27. silvrhalide says

    @27

Israel didn’t want to kill any of the prisoners, it wanted to free them.

Bibi is a war criminal (Jenin) and has been committing war crimes in Gaza for over a year now and you suddenly think he’s full of romantic notions about Iranian political prisoners?
    https://www.icc-cpi.int/defendant/netanyahu

These are the people who might lead a revolution — that’s specifically why the Iranian regime locked them up!

Precisely. These are the people who might lead a revolution. One that might also push back against Israel one day or even become a player in Middle Eastern world politics in a way that the current theocracy is not. It’s in Israel’s best interest, or at least Bibi’s best interest that Iran remains disorganized and an outcast nation. Do you honestly think that just because Evin is full of political prisoners who are against the theocracy means that they’re going to be BFFs with Israel? The policy prisoners can be against the Iranian theocracy and also be against Israel. The two positions are not mutually exclusive. By bombing Evin, they are potentially getting rid of tomorrow’s leaders under the cover of the fog of war.

The result: Iran says no prisoners were hurt, nor escaped.

Well Iran also says they don’t torture prisoners or have/are working towards a nuclear weapon. But 900 lbs of 60% enriched uranium is MIA and that is a mighty long line of trucks on the highway.

The trick is to have people storm the prison once the gate is blown up, and free the prisoners.

People being bombed are people running for whatever safety they can find. Their first thought isn’t “let’s storm the prison”, it’s “get to safety”. Iranian infrastructure was old and decaying before the bombing started, what makes you think that the highways are suddenly safer and more passable after the bombing? You’re telling me that the same Israel that targeted top Hezbollah leadership with exploding pagers decided that a bomb dropped on prison gates was the way to free the prisoners? If Israel really wanted to free Evin prisoners, they could have done so without bombs. Dropping a bomb on prison gates isn’t going to open cell doors or even the prison door.
    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cz04m913m49o

Otherwise, you just have prisoners locked away in their cell blocks wondering what the big noise and commotion was about.

I’m guessing they were hoping and praying that the next bomb didn’t drop on them directly. Also, various news organizations are reporting at least some prisoners were injured along with some deaths of visitors/employees in the bombing.

  30. silvrhalide says

@30 Sure, but the issue isn’t the volume, it’s the weight and also critical mass is an issue too. I’m not a particle physicist (have several friends who are & my housemate is a retired nuke sub guy) but even I know that you have to keep enriched uranium in small units and keep those unit separated by a certain amount of distance unless your intent is to start a sustaining reaction/reactor or just possibly an uncontrolled chain reaction. Maybe those trucks really are full of dirt and maybe they’re carrying quantities of enriched uranium (and possibly other contraband) in the dirt in those trucks. I do know if I was in a hurry to get enriched uranium out of a likely bomb target, I would err on the side of caution in terms of how much uranium is safe to carry and in what proximity to other uranium amounts. Also thinking that maybe not all of those trucks were carrying enriched uranium; some of them could have been carrying portable lab equipment and some of them could have been decoys. Why make it easy for Israeli bombers to choose a target?

  31. silvrhalide says

    @31 “Disappointments, all of you.”
Or possibly “OMG guys, I made him orange to WARN you.”

  32. raven says

I read a meme on Bluesky that sums it up.

It’s hard to persuade people not to make bombs by…dropping bombs on them.

The news reports now are that 400 kg of 60% enriched Uranium are at a secure, unknown to us location in Iran.

There are satellite photos of a large truck convoy removing whatever from the Fordow enrichment plant two days before the US attack.
“”There were trucks seen in imagery apparently hauling stuff away,” Albright says. “One would assume that any enriched uranium stocks were hauled away.”

I don’t know, none of this makes me feel any safer.

@ ^ & #26. raven & others Aussie ABC has an article here on the apparently limited damage caused by the American air strikes on Iran :

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-06-25/iran-nuclear-sites-leaked-intelligence-donald-trump/105457120

A preliminary assessment reportedly found the weekend strikes only set back the country’s nuclear program by a few months.

Details of the report, by the Pentagon’s intelligence arm, were provided to CNN and The New York Times. The White House criticised the assessment as “flat-out wrong” and said it had been leaked by a “low-level loser”. (Mandy Rice-Daves Applies -ed.)

According to multiple unnamed sources cited by the outlets, the assessment also found:

The bombings sealed off the entrances to two of the three targeted facilities but did not collapse their underground buildings
Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium was not destroyed. Some of it may have been moved to secret nuclear sites
The strikes were estimated to have delayed the nuclear program by less than six months
The Defense Intelligence Agency assessment was preliminary and a clear picture was yet to form, according to the reports.

So seems we don’t really know but almost certainly this bombing was much less effective than claimed and desired by Far Worse Genocide Don Trump & co. As noted by friends on fb, Trump’s telegraphing the attacks in advance also likely gave the Iranian leaders plenty of time to shift stuff.. A surprise attack, this was not.

  34. numerobis says

Iran stopped pursuing the bomb when Iraq got destroyed, and a second Iran-Iraq war was no longer a risk. They made sure they had the capability to quickly restart the program, but never went all the way.

what’s the message to any other country not currently an American ally? If you HAVE nukes you are might be subject to sanctions, but safe from military action (North Korea, Russia) but if you try to get nukes – USA might not negotiate in good faith/ uphold treaties beyond the current president’s term, and in addition to sanctioning you, bomb you…so you are better off GETTING NUKES than just wanting them (so buy them from Pakistan or Russia or North Korea?? or build in secret?)
