I just learned about a curious connection. Remember UATX, that fake conservative university, is having another summer session this year (you’re too late to apply, I’m afraid). Again, it’s going to be held in Dallas, not Austin, because they’ve been granted the use of some buildings in an office park called Old Parkland.
Guess who owns it?
Conservative billionaire and corrupt villain of the week, Harlan Crow.
The more I learn about these people, the more incestuous they look.

Perhaps he’ll invite everybody over to view his Nazi memorabilia and have a rousing game or two of Pin the Yellow Badge on the Jew.

The only valid use of historical nazi-era stuff I can think of are tech of interest for nerds.
Aircraft enthusiasts will enjoy the few remaining museum specimen of Messerschmitt 262 jet fighters.
Ian Mc Collum at Youtube site Forgotten Weapons often tracks down especially interesting WWII stuff, like FG-42 and various prototypes because the tech is cool. Statues? WTF?

What I found interesting was the claim that he hated fascism and communism but there was no reports of busts of Lenin, the odd statue of Stalin or even a single “Little Red book” from chairman Mao.

Yes, thirty years ago there was a glut of East European statues that were sold off to anyone that wanted them.
And today there are plenty of creepy people who will buy some genuine SS or SA dagger.
I suspect this is part of the successful Göbbels/Leni Riefenstahl propaganda effort to depict nazism as somehow larger than life.
Meanwhile, films like Raiders of the Lost Ark mercifully depict nazis as petty, stupid villains. Which is what most of them were. They were only initially successful because of the many talented opportunists that joined them.
Imagine if Himmler had been in charge of arnaments and munitions instead of Speer- the incompetence would have ended the war 1-2 years earlier.
In conclusion- the average nazi was as mediocre as the average Italian fascist.
Only their viciousness makes them memorable, sort of like Vlad the Impaler.

If the Republican party won’t even make an effort to expel a convicted criminal like George Santos because he’s one more vote in the House then there is no hope of seeing Clarence Thomas impeached. The modern GOP will accept any level of corruption as long as it gives them power and control. They aren’t even hiding it any more because their base is so brainwashed they don’t care.

Ray, I have noticed sometimes the block against doublet postings does not work.
In regard to your arguments, yes Americans need to be made aware that the GOP now is essentially a fascist party.

…And they are not even giving us motorways and nice neoclassic architecture.

@7, I’ve basically given up. Free thought blogs just hates me.

birgerjohansson@2,
I bought a copy of Mao’s “Little Red Book” in 1968. The text was tedious, and it smelled funny – presumably the ink used.
@4,
Speer’s reputation for super-efficiency is his own postwar creation. See Adam Tooze The Wages of Destruction: the Making and Breaking of the Nazi Economy.

In fact, he does have some such things:
Along with various “historic” documents, and statues of Churchill and Thatcher. Make of that what you will.

If I was collecting a lot if nazi stuff, I would make sure to balance it with a credible amount of comnunist stuff, for reasons that should be obvious.

Weird and horrible paintings commissioned by Mr Crow.

Does anyone think Crow and Thomas would be friends if Thomas was not on the Supreme Court?
birgerjohansson says
I suspect Crow’s middle name is Jim, so no.

@15 Do try to remember that Thomas is married to racist Virginia Lamp, from a long line of racist Lamps. Thomas is every racist right winger’s favorite Negro, which is how he became the head of the EEOC and then onto the SCOTUS (replacing Thurgood Marshall, the ultimate insult) in the first place.
