I have no illusions that corporate entities are actually all about civil rights and social justice, except when it can support their bottom line, but still, this exchange on Facebook was amusing.
At least Xbox and Playstation have hired savvy social media representatives. Poor Seth. Cry about it.

Excellent! While I do my gaming on a PC and don’t ever plan to buy an extra console, kudos to the people responding for XBox & Playstation to call that guy out.

I do appreciate the metric of ‘we don’t consider this controversial enough to tip-toe around this’.
Trevor Sloughter says
Since there’s no verification checkmark next to “Xbox” or “Playstation” in the comments, it’s just someone else who changed their name, right? That’s a common tactic to rile up racists when the actual corporation won’t.

Didn’t PlayStation release a free BLM skin in 2020 that pissed the same group of people off? That’s the only good I see in this kind of pandering — it pisses off awful people.
I guess they’ll have to switch to Nintendo now.
Leo Buzalsky says
Not sure as I don’t really interact with famous people or corporations on Facebook. There is a checkmark with the original post, though. Still, I had wondered if this might be fake. Mainly, why would have Playstation gotten involved in the conversation? Unless they have PR people browsing through the competitions’ feeds.

The executives might not give a damn, but at least their marketing departments are staffed by people who just might give a shit.

Crap! Messed up the end tag.
Trevor Sloughter says
Leo: Yes the original post is verified, but usually there’s a label for the “author” of a post when they comment. These fun memes of irreverent “customer service” replies on FB threads are almost entirely white-hat trolls who change their display names and profile pics just to mess with bigots, so that was my default assumption here as well. Though I went to check on some pages I follow to see, and it looks like that tag doesn’t always appear. So now I’m just not sure.

That ought to be hilarious. Last I heard, Nintendo had an absolute zero-tolerance policy for even mentioning anything that is even remotely controversial on their official player forums. I don’t know if Nintendo has a so-many-strikes policy or a suspension policy or just goes straight for banning (I don’t do online gaming), but if I’ve been informed correctly then however it works these people will not last long there.
…of course, that means they’ll be pushed onto the wider Internet again, which will be annoying.

I would also have accepted the answer “Yes, next month will be for whites, just like all the other months. That’s why Black History Month is necessary”.
Mark Dowd says
While not applicable to this specific exchange, “Black history is White history” is another good come-back against whiners.
StevoR says
LOL! Classic exchange. Thanks for this.
Well done XBox and Playstation social media people here.
Rob Curtis says
The comments are by a comedian who trolls racists etc by posing as coporations.
Ben Palmer is his name. He’s on TikTok and has vidoes mirrored on YouTube.
StevoR says
@ ^ Rob Curtis : Really? Okay, thanks. A pity in a way because would love it if it really was those companies saying this but still – good on him. Nice work!
StevoR says
PS. It does surprise me that those companies let Palmer do that – I guess that means they approve of it?
