I got an offer to see a picture of a scorpion yesterday, which is neat, but we don’t allow pictures in comments because we want to be kind to readers’ bandwidth and because there are trolls who would abuse it. But then I thought…hey, you know that Freethoughtblogs has a Discord server? That would be a perfect place for that sort of thing. I even created a #photos channel within it, awaiting your submissions.
I suppose I could create a spider-free channel if people demand it. But why wouldn’t everyone want to see spider photos? (Don’t bother answering, I know.)
Crip Dyke, Right Reverend Feminist FuckToy of Death & Her Handmaiden says
An excellent idea. I use discord fairly regularly, but I’ve never visited the Discord channel.
That would be a good use for it.
Good ,I will show you some photos of spiders this Arachnophobe has managed to take ,mind you I did have have my eyes closed ,chortle chortle .
Is the Discord server troll proof?
The troll proof will be in the troll pudding.
Stupid question: Does accessing the Discord server require it’s own login credentials, or can I use my Pharyngula?
Hj Hornbeck says
Discord has their own thing which doesn’t link up to Google/Microsoft/etc. accounts.
I don’t think there’s any bridges on there, so maybe?
PZ Myers says
Nothing is troll proof. But we have a good group of people there who can catch any wicked activity, and several FtB bloggers who would be ready to take action.
Would ‘spider lychantropy’ count as wicked activity (asking for a friend*)?
*Yes, I know lychantropy refers to canids. It is a wolf spider thing.
I dun did do set up an account there ,now what do I do?
