Totally tired of Jordan Peterson

So tired I’m not going to talk about that wanker any more. I’ll just let Rebecca Watson provide the update.

I’m amused to see that the Peterson zealots have found a way to blame his feelings on a woman.

The whole dang Peterson family needs to be quarantined with the Trump family, and then we lock the door and never open it again.

Jordan Peterson infected with COVID-19 while in Serbian hospital – report
    Jamie Ensor 7/08/2020

A controversial Canadian professor who gained fame rallying against political correctness has reportedly been infected with COVID-19 while staying in a Serbian hospital for over-reliance on drugs.

Dr Jordan Peterson, who shot to fame in 2016 after featuring in several highly-viewed videos where he discussed political correctness, flew to Russia earlier this year after developing a dependency on prescription drugs, The Sun reports.

Speaking to the British outlet, Mikhaila Peterson said her dad had contracted COVID-19 while seeking further treatment in a Serbian hospital where he was recovering from an over-reliance on Benzodiazepine.

She said he was put on a lot of antiviral drugs, which she didn’t believe was necessary as he only had mild symptoms. The daughter also revealed he was suffering from pneumonia, which he had fought earlier this year.

“And so now we’ve had a step back in his recovery. Life is just not good, things are not good right now,” she said.

    I didn’t watch the video.
In fact, with the system I’m using now, I can’t watch videos.

However, this is what they are referring to.
Peterson managed to catch the Covid-19 virus while being treated for benzodiazepine addiction in a Serbian hospital.
    Which makes no sense.
We last saw Peterson in a Moscow hospital in a coma, being treated for ….benzodiazepine addiction.
    Obviously, it didn’t work.

BTW, don’t they have hospitals up in Canada anyway?

Add Kanye West and it could be the next reality TV hit.

This video actually succeeded in making me feel sorry for Peterson, though I don’t think it’s the intent. I was never a fan, but he would have lost me at the all-meat diet if I had been with him up to that point.

Now I just think he’s a man in desperate need of help and unfortunately not in the hands of people likely to offer any. I don’t subscribe to any particular theory of his daughter’s motivations, but she’s clearly not making things better for him.

Yes, but in Canada, we would force him to use pronouns he doesn’t like. Death is preferable.

Actually, Watson says in the video that the treatment he was seeking (rapid detox) is not available in Canada or the US because it’s too dangerous.

I never heard of this guy til I came to FTB and it doesnt look like I missed much. I want to feel sorry for him, but I just cant seem to work up that much empathy for the guy. What a mess.

Crip Dyke — Perhaps we should paint house cats? Actually, around these parts, house cats that roam outside the house don’t last long apparently. Reason: coyotes eat them. Nature is vicious.

  7. KG says

    Crip Dyke@7,

Also, at least as far as small birds are concerned, the factor limiting their numbers may well be the availability of good nest-sites – where “good” includes “reasonably safe from predators”. Without access to such a site, birds probably won’t even try to raise a brood (in selective terms, better to focus on staying alive and fit for next year). The mere presence of house cats is likely to greatly reduce that number.

    robro@8,

If I could meet those coyotes, I’d shake them by the paw! The numbers of most predators are limited by the availability of prey; but the number of house-cats is not, due to their kleptoparasitism on human hosts (or if we’re being extremely generous, I suppose we could call it symbiosis in the case of lonely people).

  8. mailliw says

    @7 Crip Dyke

Putting dotted patterns on plate glass that are narrower than birds’ wingspans would apparently be a great help in reducing the numbers of strikes by birds at very low cost.

The owners of the buildings refuse to cooperate because they find the patterning “aesthetically unpleasing”:

One of a select group of people whose death would actually make the world a better place. So, knowing how screwed up 2020 has been, you just know he’s going to make a full recovery.

    [cats’] kleptoparasitism on human hosts

Ah, you mean the fiendish way in which they sneak up and eat the cat food people put, for some unknown reason, in dishes marked ‘CAT’. Personally, I wouldn’t shake the coyote’s paw until it’s finished the job and devoured the wandering cat’s owner as well.

Rebecca Watson says at the end she “is supposed to say that Jordan Peterson recovers– technically I just said it.” I’ll go further and say that I hope that IF he survives, he is miserable and in the hospital for the rest of his life.

Is it a coincidence that he has an obsession with communism and his daughter Mikhaila was born the year Gorbachev stepped down?
The man seems to be made of neurosis.

  13. bcwebb says

With working from home, I had the thrill this year of watching a pair of robins lay eggs and raise their brood to fat chicks right outside my window, up until the day there was much squawking and an angry robin chasing a well fed crow. Apparently baby birds make up a significant part of the typical crows diet.

  14. unclefrogy says

one thing I noticed about birds and pets is the birds will stay away from areas that have a cat in it except maybe the Phoebe which likes the fly’s that are always found in yards with animals while dogs seem to make them feel safer giving the possibility of a wide variety of bird visitors.
peterson et all are fools and are reaping the results of their foolishness.

Peterson is passe low tier IDW. Pluckrose and Lindsay are far more sophisticated. Plodding part way through Cynical Theories and not totally horrible yet. They name drop old school critical theorist Habermas to separate him from pomo he wasn’t very smitten with. Actually he seems far more to my liking than Horkheimer and Adorno from my own reading and still very relevant as a social theorist. They don’t seem to go anywhere with Habermas in grinding their axe. Mostly Derrida, Foucault, and Lyotard so far with a smidgen of Baudrillard so far. I assume worse is sure to come.

And they put the bogey of “cultural Marxism” to rest. That dog don’t hunt. They point to Marxism as a metanarrative pomos dislike.

They’ve been seemingly trying to address early pomo without over the top polemics, kinda pointing toward the part I would understandable take issue with, the pretentious manner in which science is but a metanarrative with no more purchase on reality than any other epistemic viewpoint and attempts to decipher objective reality are devalued.

  16. hemidactylus says

Well it started. Apparently pomo was nearly a dead end as a virus until it mutated into the Social Justice strain aimed at Reconstruction instead of Deconstruction. This ought to be fun.

  17. says

Yeah, I think I Have reached my limit of “we should care about other humans no matter how horrible they are” with Peterson. I don’t wish him bad, I just don’t particularly care what happens to him.

    Re: cats
I think it’s interesting to see how different our societies treat cats vs dog. A dog chases rabbits in someone else’s backyard? Get that beast under control!
The neighbour’s cat hunts and deposits birds and mice in your backyard? What a good kitty!
The neighbour’s dog shits on Your sidewalk? You get to be justifiably angry.
The neighbour’s cat poops on your garden path? Well, that’s just life!
Some dog barks all night? The owner may face a charge for disturbing peace.
The cats keep howling and fighting? Well, they’re animals, suck it up, person who needs to get up at 6 am.
And that doesn’t even touch the issue of people who think that putting cats everywhere is a good idea. Grocery store kitty! Bookshop kitty! Public library kitty!
Now, it’s not that I don’t like cats in general, it’s just that I’m allergic and cat allergies are common as fuck. Putting them in public locations because they’re cute is like putting peanuts in all kinds of food because they’re healthy.

    @21 hemidactylus

Pluckrose and Lindsay are far more sophisticated.

I see Lindsay has written a book called “Everybody is Wrong About God”. A book whose title itself admits that the book isn’t worth reading.

  19. hemidactylus says

    @24- mailliw

Well this new book with Pluckrose is going to be found worth reading and surely thrown in our faces by the SQWs so it behooves us to get ahead of it. Their case for a transformation of deconstructive pomo into reconstructive SJW pomo is seeming weak and poorly referenced (surveyed) so far including this bizarre analogy to Descartes: “I experience oppression, therefore I am … and so are dominance and oppression.” They oddly argue that extant so-called pomo watered down the radical skepticism and flipped deconstruction 180 degrees into its opposite. If so, is it still pomo then? Would old school pomos recognize it as such and give it credence if pomo is more than a label given to a hodgepodge of avant-garde approaches?

I’m in the same boat. It’s not that I actively want Peterson to suffer, but frankly I can’t give a damn when he suffers as a direct result of his own deranged, often sociopathic opinions and lies.

I think part of the difference in reaction is, dogs are considered extensions of their owners, while cats are only nominally domesticated.
I wish people would attach small bells on collars to prevent cats from sneaking up on wildlife.
    .
Regarding Peterson, I will quote Al Bundy re. his neighbor that got injured when accompanying Al on a woodland trip: “that’s fine buzzard fodder”.

  23. nomdeplume says

“attach small bells on collars”. We had a very smart cat who learnt to keep her head still while hunting to prevent the bell making a sound. We kept attaching additional bells to no avail – 3 or 4 in the end. The only solution for cats is for them to live in the house and not go out, especially at night. Very effective is attaching an enclosed wire netting “run” to the house with a window flap that allows the cat to go in and put.
