What does it take to get a cartoonist fired?

Easy. This’ll do it.

I notice that Scott Adams still has a job, as does every unfunny hack cartoonist who inherited a syndication slot for a cartoon invented 60 years ago.

    Just for my personal edification – is there some specific reason Trump attacking children is newsworthy (that I have missed), or is it a general reference to his threat to the U.S’s future, or, as I suspect, are we meant to see the child as a girl (with apparent pigtails) and it a comment on his specifically sexist behaviour and attitude?

  2. fentex says

    Oh, never-mind – I found out; It probably refers to children being taken from parents at the border when they’re suspected of illegal entry.

  3. Chris Capoccia says

    @fentex , not so much “suspected of illegal entry”. the usual thing that happens is people enter and turn themselves in to start the refugee appeal process

    Precisely. They are following the established rules, and running into Trump’s policy (which he lies and claims is a “law” “passed by Democrats”) of arresting the parents and taking the children away.

    Times like this, I do sort of wish there was a Hell.

    Rob Rogers continues to be available over at GoComics, by the way, in the form of his excellent cartoons. Highly recommended.

    Just so I’m clear on this – you say it isn’t about anything illegal but is being done to people arriving as refugees within the usual rules?

    That it’s now a policy of the U.S to separate refugee children from their families as a matter of course?

    @Fentex: Yes. Exactly.

    Don’t take that to mean that they aren’t also taking away the children of parents who cross illegally, but because we know that they’re taking away the children of parents who follow the lawful procedures for asylum claimants, it’s clear that the policy isn’t “about anything illegal”.

    He’s taking away kids from law-abiding people suffering persecution in their home countries. He’s taking kids away from economic migrants who crossed without a visa. He’s just taking the kids away because he wants to take the kids away because he hates foreigners, and that’s enough.

    Coming here legally is no barrier to Trump stealing your children.

    Political correctness gone mad yet again!

    I can’t fathom why anyone would be annoyed about this. That is literally the stated goal of the program – deterrence through bureaucratic terror and horror. “You want to keep your kids? Stay home.”

    This is only satire in the sense that Trump isn’t doing it personally. That’s all.

    For the sake of those who may never have driven along Interstate highways in southern California (near San Diego), at least when I last did so (20 years ago?), there were in fact official signs posted along the road that looked very like the left 3/4 of the sign in the cartoon (i.e., two adults and one child, running to cross a highway).

    An important consideration is the addition of slaves to various portions of the U. S. incarceration system.

    Also, Jeff Sessions is Lawful Evil and has no qualms about using a theocratic argument to justify that. Links, extra analysis and a photo of the actual roadsign here.

    @David Marjanović

    Holy Freud, David! I didn’t realize it was based on an actual highway sign. Thank you.
