I really feel sorry for comedy and satire writers. Sometimes the Onion is more normal than the actual news.

Not to worry, though. The poor and middle-class and non-super-rich white men will be eaten first.

Lovecraft’s horror seems rooted both in ‘people and places are different than you and your home’ and ‘the universe doesn’t care about you’. The latter I find far less horrible than anything humans can do: either they can’t be asked to care that they hurt other humans, or they do actively wish to hurt other humans, usually for being different.

Ogvorbis, at least once a week I read a headline and then check to see if I’m reading The Onion or other such site. I often surprise myself with how wrong my initial impression was.

Right now the Reptilians are getting the votes they eed for a marvellously unfair tax “reform” -The tax cuts for billionaires will be permanent, the cuts for everyone else are temporary (and will evaporate after the miderm elections). The budget deficit will expand like a nuclear fireball… and will get blamed on someone else.

Based on what I’m learning from Daniel Kahneman’s book, Thinking, Fast and Slow, perhaps you shouldn’t be surprised at all. Politicians and those who control the media know this stuff, too, a lot of it is well-practiced technique in marketing products whether goods, ideas, states of mind, etc. So it’s difficult to know the degree to which they are deliberating normalizing and familiarizing us to their absurd and reprehensible agenda merely through repetition of messages and images so that we passively accept it.

back in the day the news was really bad continuously bad. assassinations, war, fascist take overs, cross burnings and church bombings over hanging all was Nuclear Holocaust. I turned to the thought of the time to ” tune in turn on and drop out” it did not help much with all of the crap that was happening all around but it did eventually help me to understand myself a little better.
So here I am I feel like the “guy ” at the bar feels but I know that the bar wont help at all, if I think things need positive change still and probably now even more than before, things have not gotten better only slightly different really, I have no idea what I can do to help
    these are interesting times indeed!

It sux how the predators have gotten our aim deflected onto our own flaws letting them scoot past.
Most recent is Matt Lauer who did exactly what we’re failing against (sexual harassment) and gets justifiably sacked for it, while Moore who has a long history of pedophilic harassment and stalking scoots forward and strongly supported ina bid for the Senate seat.
I’d like to corrected that this is NOT the effect of “Divide And Conquer” strategy, to which I am currently assigning this mess. We point out a flaw in our opposition, they get us to look at the full set, not only the subset of “opposition” and guess what the flaws are everywhere and getting the flaws out of our side gets us to kill ourselves while the opposition is left scot free.

“Failing” @9 was meant to be “railing”
Simple spelling error completely flipped the meaning of the sentence

birgerjohansson @6 : This is the main feature, not a bug. The oligarchs will use this to defund everything the US government does but buy guns and create their glorious neoConfederate States of Their-merica.
