#6: it is. The Strange Animals blog referenced it from another blog list that has a really bizarre nonstandard format for their image captions (the “mayfly larva” ostensibly belongs to the image preceding this one, in the original blog, though good fucking luck telling that without counting the captions closely from the beginning).

#8, this reflects a huge problem with these kinds of social media accounts sharing pics and videos, more often than not stolen, without knowing anything about the subject, only for the likes and reshares. This one misunderstood the caption, and not only that, they shared the original photo credit, but did not share where the info came from. It’s the sketchy way in which IFLS got popular too lifting and stealing photos and other artistic content without proper attribution (and no, just mentioning the name is not enough in most cases, and anyway they don’t even do that many times and IFLS certainly never did at the beginning).

It’s been years, but these accounts still thrive, here’s an article at SciAm that entomologist and photographer Alex Wild wrote when he caught IFLS stealing his pics (which are amazing, btw). https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/compound-eye/facebooks-i-fcking-love-science-does-not-fcking-love-artists/

It baffles me that people that should know better still give IFLS the time of day (looking at you NDT).
