On the TYWKIWDBI website ea few days ago there was a photo of a Red Palm Weevil .
It’s antennae ends in things that look like boxing gloves .
If i were to suffer a bout of religion i would point to insects like this as proof that it was created by some higher being with a sense of humour .

Does anyone else see a resemblance to Gonzo from The Muppet Show?
Actually I was thinking more along the lines of Jimmy Durante. I shared this on my Facebook wall with a caption “Ha cha cha cha cha!”

What are those appendages on the proboscis[?] called – they seem jointed for some manipulative purpose at the site of feeding. I can’t understand why a weevil would require that apparatus except to speculate they would help to direct and stabilize that proboscis[?] for feeding. It seems that the act of feeding requires fine adjustments that can be addressed by jointed manipulators like that, but I’d like to see what their ends look like!

Or maybe they’re involved with sensory duties to help direct an optimum ‘drilling site’???
Why settle for a lesser weevil?
I’m so glad they’re tiny.
