As the comet it’s parked on moves closer to the sun, the Philae lander has woken up! It better get busy and upload all the data it’s got stored and start collecting more. It’s been sleeping long enough!
Saw yesterday in the news where Rosetta picked up a glint they thought was Philae. That was quick. Talk to us Philae.

Wake up, little Philae, wake up
Wake up, little Philae, wake up
We know you’re dead on your feet
Wake up little Philae and tweet
The night is over, the sun is brighter,
The daylight feels so sweet
Wake up, little Philae
Wake up, little Philae
Well, what are we gonna tell the public,
What are we gonna tell the press?
What are we gonna tell our colleagues
While we sing, “Ooh la la!”
Wake up, little Philae
Wake up, little Philae
Well, we told the public that you were in a hole
But, Philae baby, looks like you’re on a roll
Wake up, little Philae
Wake up, little Philae
And send something home
Wake up, little Philae, wake up
Wake up, little Philae, wake up
The comet wasn’t so hot
Your battery power was shot
You powered down to hibernate
Until more sunlight you got
Wake up, little Philae
Wake up, little Philae
Well, what are we gonna tell the public,
What are we gonna tell the press?
What are we gonna tell our colleagues
While we sing, “Ooh la la!”
Wake up, little Philae
Wake up, little Philae
Wake up, little Philae
It’s time to phone home

I hope the lander will get enough power to send back all the information it has stored on board. I understand the data links with earth aren’t that fast at that distance (something like 50 kbit/s), so it would be frustrating for the scientists to know there are still good pictures on the spacecraft that have yet to be downloaded when it leaves the sun.

I’m a little suspicious about Philae’s recovery. Are we sure it hasn’t healed itself by merging with alien technology resulting in a drastically altered mission that threathens Earth? Just asking, because it’s happened twice before.

#4: Apparently, the first thing Philae did was complain about Rosetta dumping him, blaming her for his predicament. He went on to brag about how big his obelisk is. So, definitely still human technology…

Funny, I always thought of Philae as ‘she’. :D

I suppose we’ll find out, once the comet changes course…
I mean, Philae might just be making a bee-line to the next solar system, because, you know, humans, but I’ll definitely be watching for any unusual activity from Philae (via the ever-watchful media, of course).

Anyway, I hear Philae will even be able to start sciencing soon. This is super-exciting!! Right up there with magnets and men on the moon.

Philae is still talking, sporadically.
