Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) goes for a drive with Ru Paul.
I found this on Joe. My. God., where I saw this commentary:
It’s very hard to believe that Elvira is 62.
My first thought was, yes, she looks amazing, and I was surprised that she’s that old. But immediately after I saw her birthday — 17 September 1951 — my second thought, my shocked realization, was…she’s only a few years older than I am.
Goddamn. When did that happen?
Nerd of Redhead, Dances OM Trolls says
Ah, barely younger than the Redhead. Reminds me of colleague when I started out in academia. “You know you are middle aged when you stop ogling the coeds, and start ogling their mothers.”. Now it would be the grandmothers….
proudfootz says
RuPaul is only a little younger than I am, chronologically speaking.
Improbable Joe, bearer of the Official SpokesGuitar says
I’m given to understand that “Elvira” (Cassandra Peterson in the full kit/makeup) is in-person one of the sexiest women alive, hands down and no argument. Everyone I know who has met her in person at various conventions says that even surrounded by scantily-clad “booth babes” and cosplayers, she’s got so much charisma that she eclipses every woman in her presence.
Akira MacKenzie says
My first guess: Better living through surgery.
My second guess: Really good genes.
magistramarla says
They should re-enact this drive in character. They are both striking characters.
Yeah, I’m feeling old, too. I’m not that many years younger than she is either.
Gregory in Seattle says
@magistramarla #5 – “They should re-enact this drive in character.”
Oh, yes.
Tigger_the_Wing, Back home =^_^= says
Yep. time to start feeling old, I guess.
I’ll be 56 on Sunday.
Where did the time go?
Ingdigo Jump says
Are we absolutely sure this does not qualify for the Stewart patented quadruple take?
chigau (違う) says
Happy Birthday, Tigger.
(you spring chicken, you)
ekwhite says
I’m only a year younger than Cassandra Peterson, and I am amazed at how good she looks. That discussion between her and Ru Paul was a lot of fun.
notyet says
I turned 57 in August and could probably pass for Casandra Peterson’s father. As Ed O’Neil used to say on “Married with Children” , “Oh yeah, life’s fair”

Um…when you were born?

Just remember…you’re only young once, but you can be immature forever.
marcus says
I <3 Elvira (and apparently Cassandra Peterson as well). What a lovely conversation that was.
Turned 58 in September. Never actually thought it would happen to me.
left0ver1under says
A name like Cassandra is almost too perfect for a real name. I’ve always wondered if she chose that as a real life “stage name” as well as Elvira.
Tigger_the_Wing, Back home =^_^= (#7)
If you’re enjoying your time and having a productive life, who cares? I used to hate turning 40, but now I’m closing in on 50 and enjoying it because I’m fit, active, have good friends and a job I love. The older I get, the better I look.
Muz says
As an aside I’m also intrigued by how many people are nicking Robert Llewellyn’s format these days.
Trebuchet says
You’re all whippersnappers compared to me. Get off my lawn!
ChasCPeterson says
I’ll tell you what’s hard to believe.
What’s hard to believe is that the Joe.My.God. guy (“Joe”, one presumes) wears that hat with a straight face.
chigau (違う) says
Chas
The houndstooth gilligan hat?
What’s the problem?
It’s … um …. it’s …its
whheydt says
Bunch of youngsters around here…I’m over 2 years *older* than she is.

whheydt #20
Yes. But do you look that good?
Rip Steakface says
Wow, I can only hope to look that good when I’m forty-two, let alone sixty-two. I still have four and a half decades til the latter point, but still, it’s kind of intimidating.
marinerachel says
Outside of that lighting she shows some of her age. She’s no less beautiful for it though and she doesn’t look even close to sixties. Ru Paul looks fantastic too. They had a really good vibe going.
Another one I loved the hell out of was Ru Paul Drives… Henry Rollins. I have been in love with him since I was fourteen.
blf says
I’m of similar age to poopyhead but have absolutely no idea who either of these two individuals are. Now excuse me please whilst I put this bucket back on my head and resume hidernating…
mildlymagnificent says
Took the words right out of my mouth.
sambarge says
Is Ru Paul doing a series of these interview videos, like Robert Llewellyn’s Car Pool series?
Because that would be cool. Plus he’s driving a Volvo!
a_ray_in_dilbert_space says
My wife turned 55 last week. As recently as 5 years ago, she still got carded (and they meant it) at bars. She can look 20 years younger than her chronological age.
I on the other hand have looked old since I was 19. And more and more, I look like Grandpa from the Munsters.
Trebuchet says
The ticket seller at the ferry yesterday questioned whether my wife, a year older than me, was really eligible for the “senior” fare. He had no doubts at all for me. It made her day!
swooziechick says
I went to college not in her hometown, and every year at Halloween she would do an interview with the college radio station.
Cassandra really is her first name; her parents both had an interest in Roman & Greek mythology.
As an adult, she has been very careful not to go out into the sunlight without sunscreen or clothing covering her skin. Even 20 years ago, she couldn’t remember ever having had a sunburn on her face, shoulders or cleavage, which helps prevent a lot of the damage that ages the skin.
She wouldn’t cop to having or not having had plastic surgery. The picture in the local paper of her with her mother showed that her mother, having taken the same kind of care with her skin despite having worked in the fields beside her husband on the family farm, looked much, much younger than her actual age. I would guess that there are a lot of good genes and good habits contributing to her appearance.
If you can find the episode of Counting Cars that she appears in, she’s a hoot. Danny “The Count” Coker worked with her in LA & Las Vegas in late-night television in the 1980’s, and she took her beloved car to him for restoration. All through the show, she’s there as Cassandra. At the end, when she comes in to pick it up, she’s Elvira. And she & The Count go driving in the vamp-mobile.
marinerachel says
I love that Ru Paul’s driving his mom’s old car with a sticky door.
Tigger_the_Wing, Back home =^_^= says
Thanks for the birthday wishes! =^_^=
I look much younger than my age too – even with the grey hair, I have difficulty pursuading people that I’m a grandmother to five. When I occasionally dye it, or shave it off altogether, nobody believes my age.
I’ve always been a sun avoider. My skin hasn’t wrinkled at all yet, but that’s mainly because of the connective tissue disorder that is currently making it harder and harder for me to walk*.
I’d love to be productive. I’ve been unemployed since 2007, due to health reasons. I do some crochet, which keeps my mind finctioning (more-or-less!), and I’ve joined a knitting group and a concert band; but that isn’t like actually going out to work.
I used to imagine I’d still be riding my motorcycles and working well into my eighties. Oh, well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*I can still take a few steps without a walking aid, provided there is furniture or a wall within grabbing distance, but even with a stick or walker I cannot walk more than a few yards. It’s immensely frustrating, because I’d much, much rather be active. I use a little electric scooter to get around, it gives me a bit of independance that the wheelchair can’t any more (Irish roads and footpaths are shocking).
Tigger_the_Wing, Back home =^_^= says
“finctioning”
Oh, very funny.
Please replace the extra i with this u. Thanks. No, I don’t want the i back. =^_^=
I actually remember seeing the movie they discussed. She essentially played the same character, Elvira, but it had a silly plot about moving into a neighborhood which was quite suburban and square.
So, she didn’t quite fit in.
My favorite part was when she was making some kind of eye of newt casserole (with lots of gross ingredients) but it was missing something. Spying a bag of potato chips she sat on it and sprinkled the newly crushed chips on the top of the casserole.
Second favorite moment is when she killed the evil character with her stiletto heel by throwing it at him. The slow motion of the heel as it arced towards its target was priceless movie making.
