Help the Secular Student Alliance

The SSA is having a fund raiser. This is an excellent and fast-growing organization that promotes rational thought on college campuses — if you’ve got a few dollars to spare, give them a little. It’s money well spent, since this organization has been marvelously successful in organizing student groups.

I have been contributing to the SSA $10/month automagically via PayPal for at least a year and a half. I will continue to do so as long as I have adequate funds and the SSA exists.

Anyone know of a URL for a one-time donation via paypal that doesn’t demand flash? (x86_64 isn’t well supported by adobe)

Good for them! I hate, though, how the religious have given the word secular such a bad connotation.

We just started a local chapter of SSA at the University of Arizona. In fact, we’ll have a table out on the mall the next couple of days, so any secularists at the UofA come on down and say hi.

We just started the Atheist & Agnostic Association at Bucknell University in PA, and the SSA was incredibly helpful with the entire process. They have some truly dedicated people working for them to help students like us trying to provide sane alternatives to the many religious groups on campuses. We’re hoping to start bringing in speakers next semester, so give them money!!

I think you broke Hemant’s website. Anybody else getting “Database error” when you go to his Friendly Atheist website?

SSA has been a big help to American University Rationalists and Atheists. Their support allowed us to put on a full-fledged Church of the Flying Spaghetti Dinner. They organized D.C. tours for Dan Barker and Ellery Schempp.

Any D.C. Pharyngulites looking for something to do this Friday? We’re putting on a free secular comedy show featuring John Knefel of HuffPo and 23/6, Michael Drucker of The Onion and Saturday Night Live, and Pastor Deacon Fred of Landover Baptist Church.

Friday, April 24th, 8 p.m. in the Mary Graydon Center at American University.

The University of Mississippi, Ole Miss, sadly does not have a Secular Student Alliance. For one reason or another, the potential members decided they didn’t want to be publicly identified as atheists, agnostics, humanists, or secularists. Anyone else at Ole Miss that can help me out here?

I wish I could….I’m a student myself, and I don’t really have enough money to pay my light bill this month. I’m gonna have to find someone to borrow from as it is.

I just wish that the SSA had a branch on my campus….
