I didn’t think of this one, Dustin did—but take a look at this comparison of search volume for “pharyngula” vs. “discovery institute”. There’s perspective for you: one wild-eyed guy with a blog is gaining on a whole gang of creationists with millions of dollars in funding and a machine to churn out press releases.

There’s an idea…to catch up more, maybe I need to call myself the Pharyngula Institute and start faxing press releases to the newspapers.

    Heh. Do a comparison for Pharyngula with “Behe” or “Dembski”. Then, for shits and giggles, compare it with “UncommonDescent”.

    I didn’t think that Google allowed that but I tried it and I got 17 (American) billion hits.

    You know PZ, I love this blog, but if was called, “The Crazy Science Fun Time Blog” instead of “Pharyngula” maybe more people would be able to spell it.

    I’m sorry to hear they’re doing so poorly. Maybe they should spend that money on research or something. That way they can start making some discoveries. I looked up the word institute and the dictionary said it is “An association organized to promote art or science or education”, so I’m thinking maybe they should go out and buy themselves “an association organized to promote art or science or education”, or something like that.     It would be interesting to see if the comparative frequencies would be changed if likely misspellings of pharyngula were included. “Discovery Institute” contains only common words. Pharyngula, however…..

    I figured Google would filter out “the” too, but I did a search for it and was amused to find that the site on top of the list was The Onion. Right below it: whitehouse.gov :)

    If you are going to be PI, how will you define its value? ;-) Perhaps the biblical version was reduced by some sort of tithe to the god/priests.
