Did you think our leaders had learned anything from the catastrophe that has been the COVID-19 pandemic? Of course not, or at least nothing good. It appears that we are entering another pandemic, this one even more preventable than the last. What’s worse, it sure seems like the Christian fascists of the United States did learn a lesson or two from the AIDS crisis of the late 20th century – disease is a great tool in their effort to wipe out all LGBTQ+ people. Bigots have always used it for their genocidal projects, and this seems to be no exception
Watch the video, be on the lookout for misinformation, and look after each other.

Have we learned nothing? We’ve just spent 3 years in one pandemic where it’s apparently just TOOOOO BORING to wear masks and social distance. Up pops another pandemic that can be avoided by avoiding close contact with other people…and once again, it’s just TOOOOOO BORING to avoid close contact with random strangers.
The human race is not that bright.

I feel like at least some of this comes from decades of indoctrinating people to believe that we’re responsible for ourselves and our families, and NOTHING else. To the degree that communities still exist, we’re not expected to have any loyalty to them or any sense of personal investment (unless we’re rich enough to own land, and then it’s a literal investment), but we have to move where the jobs are, and move where the rent is affordable.
Our entire duty to society has been reduced to the work we do for the profits of others, so any time we’re NOT doing that is the only taste of freedom we get, so people try to defend that against obligations they feel they fulfilled in the workplace.
And, of course, work is so draining most people don’t have the ENERGY to do more. Rich people just pay others to do it for them.

People aren’t even good at taking care of themselves: a good friend went to an anime convention, and she and the people she went with all came down with Covid! Who could POSSIBLY have predicted that spending time elbow-to-elbow with thousands of strangers in stuffy rooms might spread a highly-contagious viral infection??!?!
When news of the monkeypox spread first hit a couple of months ago, a person with self-protective instincts might have said, “Gee, maybe I should hold off having random sex with multiple random partners?”
Remember the Ebola pandemic under Obama? No, you don’t, because 2 or 3 people in the entire USA died from it. I remember the rightwing poutrage when someone who was exposed was forced to quarantine.
