The great twinkie bubble

Twinkies are no more, they are an ex-snack, they have ceased to be. And it turns out twinkies have a speculative value in the strange world of online nostalgic snacks:

ABC News– On Hostess Brands’ last day of shipping its iconic snacks, entrepreneurial eBay sellers have taken the opportunity to tap into buyers’ Hostess panic, selling boxes for 95 percent more than grocery stores.

In one Food Emporium grocery store in New York City, Twinkies were sold out by 1:30 p.m. ET. In its place, was a box of 8 Hostess Strawberry Cupcakes, sitting next to several other Hostess products.

Retailing there for $4.29 for a box of ten Twinkies, one eBay seller sold a box for $59.99. Other boxes were on sale for $100 or more.

They are just pining for the snack isles.

Since twinkies have a usable lifetime of “you should live so long” hoarders will be able to sell them at profit forever.

Nobody has realized that great impact the disappearance of Twinkies will have in Colorado. The sale of pot was made legal there.

At least Cheetos are still available.

That’s some mighty fine math there Lou.

We will still have Twinkies here in Canada. Saputo Corp. owns the rights to them.

So, maybe I’ll have a new career choice: Twinkie Smuggler.

It’d look good on a CV, eh?

Yes, there is no noticeable shortage in the land of hockey. Perhaps it will encourage Americans to come north of the border as tourists.

You reminded me of a joke I once heard said by a comedian (I don’t remember who):

“Why don’t they do the kind of math in school that we understand?

For example, if John has 300 twinkies and he eats 73, how many joints did he smoke?”

Twinkie smuggler sounds like a euphemism

You must be thinking about speedo swimsuits. Australians call them “budgie smugglers”.

Just to be clear, Twinkies are not going anywhere. They’re just going to be made by a different company now, instead of a company that can’t seem to MAKE MONEY SELLING TWINKIES and still keep their union happy. Conservatives should be jizzing in their pants; this is the free market at work. You can’t make money selling Twinkies, you fail.

A company that may well own the name “Hostess.”
