OK Ohio, time to show us how to rock and roll!

Ohio is key to Romney, if he loses that state his path to electoral bliss hits a brick wall. It’s mathematically possible for him to win, but much harder. Recent polls show Obama with solid lead in the state, but voters are fickle and events unpredictable. The good news is early voting begins in the Buckeye Stete this Tuesday, if you know anyone in Ohio, now would be a good time to call them. If you live and/or vote in Ohio, our fate is in your hands this week: now would be a good time to ask a friend or two if they want to head to the polls with you.

Garbage in, garbage out

It was bound to happen sooner or later. The conservative fantasy world, so carefully crafted with Kochwhore pocket change, has built up an alternate reality so seductive that it’s now turning on its creators. One way it manifests is with GOP denial over polling data showing Romney ina  death spiral. Garbage in, garbage out, now the untreated run off is flowing like rapids, so why not make an honest buck off of it? [Read more…]

I’ll be the drunk guy

Paleoclimatologist extraordinaire Dr. Michael Mann will be in my home town of Austin next week. Mike has been invaluable again and again in helping me and dozens of other bloggers convey the subtleties of his field of study to thousands of readers over the years. In fact he and his cohorts created one of the first dedicated expert science blogs, Realclimate.

We’ll probably get together for a beer at some point on Tues or Weds. If you’re in Central Texas let me know below and I’ll keep you posted. I might need a ride home.

The little search engine that couldn’t

Go to a website and you will see it. Split a virtual piece of wood and it is there. I’m talking of course about the annoying, omnipresent ads for the search engine Bing, by Microsoft. It/they simply will not leave me alone. I’m sure it’s a fine product, no doubt a great deal of effort and maybe even some love went into it. It’s nothing personal. But I am simply not going to use Bing no matter how much you pester me and that constant pestering is now beginning to irritate me.

Call me stuck in a rut, label me a a closed-minded aging creature of habit, whatevs. But I’m not going to switch unless Google breaks or unless all the techno-kids I work with suddenly start talking Bing up. Neither of those things has happened and the latter would have happened by now if it was going too. Please, MSFT, leave me in peace with one of the few constants I can still count on when using the Internet.
