Audra McDonald, starring in a revival of Porgy and Bess, was interviewed on The Colbert Report. I usually do not enjoy interviews with performers that much but this was a really good one, with her giving some great background to the musical.
Here McDonald sings a small segment of the haunting Summertime and sounds terrific. Colbert joins her but I think this song is simply beyond him and he would have been wise to let her have a solo. He just cannot match the quality of her voice.

I remember seeing the film many years ago with Sidney Poitier, Dorothy Dandridge, and Sammy Davis, Jr. and, despite the obvious problems involving depictions of race, being moved to tears. Here from one of the many later performances is the blasphemous It Ain’t Necessarily So.
