Isn’t it amazing how you can turn anything into an insult by assigning it to a woman? I had no idea synonyms were so odious. Oglaf goes even more over the top in a panel not shown here…it’s definitely not safe for work. (Also, don’t click on “Prev Story” unless you want to see another example.)

That Amazon general has whole binders full of issues.

I think synonyms are stupid and dumb and ridiculous and absurd and nonsensical and inane and stuff. I mean, who needs more than one word for something? Besides, real men speak in monosyllables.

You used the word “monosyllable”? How unmanly.

It would have been better had every insult been followed with “#FTBullies”.

Real men don’t use vowels, either.

Damn, I love Oglaf.
I’m very very glad I didn’t have a mouthful of Dr Pepper just then, or someone would owe me a new iPad.

What the heck is the sub-text here? I mean, she still seems to be giving the orders, despite his threatening talk, in a wifely sort of way. But maybe she’s the Queen? I dunno.
And aren’t women supposed to be better than men, on average, at thinking of synonyms? Mebbe PZ nailed it above? “Real men grunt.”

Dick, *cough* they’re both women. See the title of the strip.

Trudy Cooper: Breaking the long tradition of pervy Canadian webcomics with a pervy Australian webcomic. (Although don’t feel too bad for Canada — they still have Gisele Lagacé drawing semi-feminist sex comedy, and whatever Clay left behind in Sexy Losers he’s more than made up for in Depression Comix.)

Dick the Damned:
Erm…they’re Amazons. Both female. As for subtext, well, the message is pretty straightforward as to how language is used and in what directions.

NelC, thanks. I read “Amazon” as in South America, not as in Greek mythology. Duhhhh! I thought the butch one’s head-dress looked a bit Aztec or Inca.
It makes more sense now.

Poor Giz. I do like her comics, but every time I glance at the forums I cringe in horror. Why she would have such slut shaming, misogynistic fans just baffles me. Of course, since they’re usually talking about how much they hate all of her female characters and judge “character development” by whether or not a nerdy straight man got laid, I don’t know if they really count as “fans”.
Re: Oglaf. The mouseover text on this is going to be burned into my mind for life. So brilliant all around.

I didn’t know there was mouseover text on Oglaf comics.

Oglaf is pretty much the only comic I read now. Fantastic material. I have several times splurfled coffee or tea whilst reading.

There is ‘title=’ text and ‘alt=’ text.
eg:
alt="It's okay to have doubts about Wonder Woman, as her name implies."title="Is it true that some men cut off their balls to be better horse riders?"
In Firefox, at least, you can select the image, then do “View Selection Source”.

I think the alt-text question is just making fun of the part of the Amazon myth about how they all cut off their right breasts to make them better archers.

#14:
Tell me about it. Something’s gone horribly wrong when an ex-riot grrl draws a comic about her flighty punk chick lead character seducing a woman into dumping her asshole husband and the commentary all focuses on how much it hurt the whiny little shit of a kid. (And, sure, maybe Dave wrote that, but it’s Gisele’s comic. She’d have to sign off on it to, you know, draw it.)

I would also note that the current arc of Amber trying to get Gary away from Yuki is very interesting… it puts someone who shouldn’t have any problem bedding her biggest fan in, basically, the role of the antagonist. Not an evil one, really kind of sympathetic, but compared to Yuki’s efforts to straighten her head out, still an antagonist.

To be honest, a bowstring that bangs into your boob hurts crash down on the floor and weep excessively. It also makes you arrow go off to the nether regions.
Wearing breast-protection helps a lot. Being a halfway comnpetent archer helps even more.
So, there’s a hell lot of thing they could and would have done to solve the problem that didn’t include unnecessary surgery…

Like wearing armor, which also conveniently serves as protection from the, you know, enemy. The myths give the ostensible reason, but it is simply about othering.

Funny to see Menage a 3 come up here.
Mmme. Legace has done some stuff for Archie Comics. I wonder if we won’t eventually see some entertaining freakout from some conservative type when they find out someone doing Archie draws a sex romp as one of her main gigs.

amazon or not the “guy” yelling looks just like the dark haired guy in the previous cartoon and not unlike many of the slimmer men she draws but not like the big thick guys.
the joke for me is all the bluster of yelling insults made no impression on her at all. he is all bluster and like many in her strips a fool!
