Uh-oh, he’s on to us!

Rats. Paul Broun (Ridiculous, Ga) sees right through us.

All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell. And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior.

So…this guy gets elected down there in Georgia?

Confusion and self-destruction. New ways to kill each other in wars. I tell you gentlemen the way of science is the way of darkness.”

sometimeI think we have gotten abso-fuckin-lutely nowhere with regards to weaning away from superstition. And then shit like this confirms my thoughts.

So… you have never been to Georgia, I take it.

  6. says

Yes, it’s astonishing that we can keep a whole fake branch of biology going, with research, number crunching, and publishing, all for the sake of keeping them from understanding that they need a savior.

We do that even though the morons don’t understand a thing about it, true or not.

It’s not money well spent, then, but we’re doing it anyway.

not surprising since the bad guys won.
there will be no going back. even if all religion is removed from the entire Earth it will not change the fact that the bad guys won.
Paul Broun is not too different from Romney or Obama. these are your leaders today tomorrow and forever. It’s over folks–the bad guys won.

  8. says

Jeez, Joed, great attitude. ‘It’s over’? Just what is ‘it’. I’m doing the best I can in my part of the world, in my family, in my community. I just got elected to my local school board, and will do my best there, too.

Others who come here clearly have ideas and passions that they are working on. What are you doing? Your attitude implies that you’re doing nothing. If you are doing something, then why the complete shitting on all of humanity? If you’ve given up, please just go away.

  9. elfsternberg says

This guy is on the House Committee on Science and Technology. Along with Todd “I’m not really sure how babies are made” Akin.

Let that sink in. This guy makes national science funding decisions.

He picked the one committee where he could do the most damage. He’s undermining the United State’s dominance in the sciences, giving aid and comfort to our enemies. Why isn’t he in chains?

  10. robro says

This guy gets elected in Georgia, while Bachmann gets elected in Minnesota. Seems like wackos are everywhere. We’ve had our share of loons here in California. Odious that this particular one is on the Science & Technology committee. Gah! I think I need to retch.

  11. colonelzen says

Gee Joed. I guess there’s nothing to do but sit around and feel sorry for yourself for the rest of your life. It isn’t worth doing anything positive or trying to make any change at all because the bad guys won.

Because “the bad guys won” your life is over, and its bad forever! And you’ll never have a moment of happiness again, and there will be no more good nor opportunities to make more good in the world.
It’s useless. Give up. The end.

Of course some of us stubbornly continue to take the next breath, the next step, and the next day, finding our moments of happiness and joy along the way, and here and there – often as much because there’s no reason not to and plenty of reason in our love for the people involved – to try and make the future, ours, theirs, everybody’s a little better. No promises that we’ll ever make *big* differences that will last forever …. but we silly people think that if we’re here and going to be doing and being anyway, we may as well do good anyway. Do you have anything better to do?

I followed the links to the “Sportsman’s Banquet” where he made the speech. There’s a wall of deer heads behind him.

There’s some fuss in California because the Fish and Game Department is changing its name to Fish and Wildlife. The hunters that are upset about it call themselves Sportsmen, also. That just seems odd.

But, Jesus, that this guy is even electable in this country?!? And on a science committee?

And of course he says he’s checked on things, done the research and has scientists agreeing with him. Why not just admit he’s saying what he says because he’s afraid of going to Hell?

  13. says

Unfortunately, this kind of sentiment is incredibly common among the people of Georgia. It’s very disturbing. Someone please save my state. :(

I live in this fuckweasel’s district. It was bad enough when our (relatively speaking) liberal enclave of Athens and the University of Georgia was “only” diluted by the intense conservative stupid of the NE Georgia mountains and the Augusta good ol’ boys. But with redistricting, Athens has been split between two districts, so Rep. KrazyPants is probably safe for a good long time. He’s frakking unopposed in this election.

Let me tell you how thrilled we all are at UGA that this moron member of the House Science Committee “represents” our public research university. He’s even a product of our school! A Chemistry BS, in every sense of that abbreviation. Perhaps no one taught him how to use a fume hood during organic chem labs; it could explain a lot.

We have a beltway around Athens named the Paul Broun Parkway, after his father, a Georgia state senator. The road signs don’t actually make the distinction “Paul Broun, Sr.” and I have been tempted on many occasions to correct that flaw. I’ve heard (though I can’t find a corroborating link) that even dear old Dad couldn’t stand Junior’s political views and inane logorrhea.

Junior’s Congressional office looks like a taxidermist’s wet dream, by the way, so that picture of him with the Antlered Wall of Doom is completely in character.

The guy who thinks you can vote for somebody other than Obama, andt the same time keep Romney from being elected….

…after all, it’s not like there are states like California where Obama’s lead over Romney is greater than the percentage of people who are inclined to vote for someone who isn’t a center-right corporate apologist and union-basher. That would be unthinkable! The ability to blame people who don’t want to put their votes towards increasing a Democrat’s lead in a state they would have won anyway for all the Dems’ campaign failures and chronic unwillingness to challenge voter suppression is fundamental to American politics!

  22. Compuholic says

Wow, just wow. It just amazes me, that it is possible for a politician to publicly say such bullshit without the media ripping him apart the very next day.

But on the other hand it is perfectly understandable. The reporters in the media went through the same education system as the rest (although you might hope that reporters are better educated as the average population). So what do you expect. That there are so few people who are outraged by this guys statements is really scary.

I can only hope that the educated part of the U.S. population can reverse this educational downward spiral in time before it is too late.

I wonder if he bothered to use the new flu shots each year? If nothing can evolve, why change the vaccine?

It is basically saying that people like say the poor or queers or women don’t matter politically.

They only matter as rhetorical tools: the 47%, gay marriage, welfare queens, etc.

I think he just made that up, don’t you?

I doubt it. That would require a modicum of intelligence and creativity. He’s repeating what a preacher was repeating.

    Georgia’s 10th Congressional District Election (2010)

    Paul Broun (R) (incumbent) 138,062 (67.36%)
    Russell Edwards (D) 66,905 (32.64%)

The voters had a choice, and they chose stupid.

Nice rhyme (by you), but that particular creationist slogan goes back decades.

  31. birgerjohansson says

To split the vote, maybe we should help fund some independent conservative? Someone with a grudge against Broun’s particular church, and someone who looks better than him on TV.

Once splitter conservative takes off enough to make do with new conservative money donors we can lean back and eat popcorn.
    Groun: “I am the conservativiest”.
Challenger: “I am much Christianer than you, pagan!”

  32. Aratina Cage says

    @birgerjohansson
Broun already defeated such people (see Wikipedia). The final vote was between Broun and another conservative, leaving Democrats with no one to vote for. He keeps winning primaries against other conservatives.

And really, you aren’t going to find a conservative in Georgia who is much different from Broun.

  33. Ichthyic says

And really, you aren’t going to find a conservative in Georgia who is much different from Broun.

The truly relevant song lyric: When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school

I am presuming you Yanks elect these people to make the rest of the world feel better about the miserable excuses we select/elect (or not) for our governments.

  36. Ichthyic says

yeah, I do believe it wasn’t the racial slur but the Catholic communion wafer version of “cracker”.

  37. Ichthyic says

huh, I hadn’t considered that angle before.

So I should feel better than NZ elected John Key the year I left the US and came here?

  38. Menyambal --- Sambal's Little Helper says

    Symbolism:

The dead deer are there because “sportsmen” regard animals as something to be killed for amusement, and they feel that attitude is right, proper and to be celebrated.

That flavor of Christian regard other people as something to be condemned to Hell, and they feel that religion is right, proper and the purpose of the universe.

Paul Broun regards everyone who isn’t of his religion as not citizens of this nation, and feels that his duty is to screw them over, right properly, in the name of his religion.

The mounted deer heads are exactly symbolic of how Paul Broun feels about you.

(Or something like that. Seriously, how twisted is it to kill an animal for fun, then nail up a part of it on your wall? I’ve seen hunting trophies before, and never liked or disliked them, but that wall just got me thinking. It’s like the worst serial killer imaginable, except it’s “only animals and we eat them”.)

“The Pit of Hell, for all your science updates. Also from the Pit of Hell: Modern medicine, computers, and GPS satellites”

According to the Holey Babble, God lied to our ancestors to keep them in naive ignorance, while Satan encouraged us to gain knowledge and understanding.

According to the Holey Babble, God has killed thousands of people for various minor offences (not counting the near-total biocide during the flood), and is goingto kill almost everyone else during the Last Judgement. Satan on the other hand only ever killed about a dozen people (in order to win a bet with God).

If either of them atually existed, I think siding with the Pit of Hell would be the more moral choice.

  41. Ichthyic says

    yeahbut…

the thing that really bugged me about the wall of heads… was that whoever mounted them there posed them such that it appears as though they are actually focused on whoever would be standing at the speaker podium.

    it’s just… freaky sick.
